I have a question for the guys in NC. Where in NC is the best place to look for the nice green rhyolite? The best local artifacts seem to be made of this material. Thanks for any info.

I'd bet most folks who know where they can find that stuff are going to keep it under their cap. I've never seen an abundance of it anywhere around here. I wish you luck in finding the motherlode though.

I remember that big chunk James had a Pappy's two years ago and the tree trnk he was beating on it with :)
-
If ya find a bunch of it let me know and I will help ya load it ;D. Bryan Irwin found some rhyolite but it wasn't green.

where do you live in n.c. look around stanley and anson county in the rivers. u can find it around badin lake.
-
I remember getting a truck load of it with James back when i was 16.. we got it from a housing development they were putting in.. but that was 10 years ago and i am sure there are houses there now.
I still have some of it.

i think i just worked a piece of green rhyolite the other night.
tough stuff,i loved it
theres another one i need to score more of >:D

Most of the sources for the good stuff have dried up, at least until another building boom starts. Joe (Arappaho) has some for sale sometimes.

Joe & I used to get some rhyolite from the same site. Now there are houses all over it and the place has been pretty picked over.

Yeah, I'm still sitting on a ton or two of the stuff and will be happy to sell some
to whoever wants to come by and get it. I'm sorry, but I just don't have the time
to get into internet sales right now.
One problem being there are so many different types and grades of the stuff. I'll try to post
some pics of some of the different types of rhyolite from NC sometime so folks can get
an idea of the varieties to look for.
Right now, sounds like Bryan's the man with the plan! ;)

Arappahoe, where are you located? I might be interested if your not too far.

I'm in Wake Forest, NC, just north of raleigh.
If a time can be arranged, anyone is welcome to come by and
'get a feel' for bustin' some rhyo rock. ;)
