Hi guys, I used to be a member of the English Warbow forum but I finally found ya! I'm hoping to get a 100 pound laminate Warbow from Steve Stretton within the next couple of months and my question is thus: where can one buy a bow stringer that is safe to use with a 100# Warbow?
-
I've just used an overly long 16 strand fastflight string as a stringer, which has worked fine for my bows, the heaviest of which is 90#; however I'm sure it'd work fine for bows heavier than that as well.
-
Ditto for me... I just made my own.
-
I use paracord for mine.
-
cheers guys. Making one seems to be the logical solution here.

You should be able to brace a 100# bow with the step through method

Could this method cause an uneven set though?
-
Using a stringer will be kinder to the Bow in the long run,I use them for all my Longbows regardless of the weight.
-
I agree with Loki - as I understand it if done correctly the step-through method is safe, however it is easy to do improperly so can cause limb twist, so personally I'd take the safe option and use a stringer.

I started out with a stringer made from sail-cord with a breaking strength of 150 kgs.
Now.. I just put the bottom nock on the inside of my boot and by pulling the centre and puching down on the top limb I work the top loop to and in the nock.
Works like a charm ( on both my 100 lbs Fairbow and my 110 lbs Stratton warbows. )
Also 150 kgs is guaranteeing no unwanted 'mishaps'... Stringers from a 'regular' bow-shop are NOT suitable for warbows ;D )
-
I too use paracord as a stringer (used on bow upto 150lb)
its not ideal as it stretches but it works ok and is very cheap and easy to get

Not if you are careful

Limb twist is more of an issue with recurves not longbows

Step through works fine, as long as you brace the handle against your thigh, so both limbs bend.
-
I brace all my warbows, up to 110#, with push/pull. That's using FF strings, of course.
-
I find push pull fine for bows upto the 100lb sort of weight (although I think it varies a lot between bows of the same weight as to how difficult to string they are)
my 133lb bow I usually use a stringer but I can string/destring it using the method of resting a bow tip on the ground and kneeling on the centre of the bow whilst holding the other bow tip
I think using a stringer is always the best idea though

I used fastflight for all my bows over 100lb.

I find all my bows >70# are useless without FF strings. B50 is just too stretchy. With my 100+# bows, I can't even brace them with B50.
