I bought a take down sleeve so i am still gonna use the other limb and handle riser, still very disappointing to get to 23" and full brace just to have it explode without warning. :'( -josh

Is that poplar, Josh? I had a hickory bard bow break at a knot. No knots on bards for Jawgie. :) Jawge
-
it was bamboo-backed Ipe, Jawge :) I uncovered the knots while tillering.
-
Oh, I see. I see. :) Jawge
-
cool scott, I was kinda planning a buildalong deal. -Josh :)

That's too bad Josh, but it will be cool to see it as a takedown. ;)
-
It IS already a takedown, just not a functional takedown, LOL ;D I am going to have to make the other limb separate with a hickory backing instead of a boo back because it's all I have. Also the handle riser is gonna be made outta different kinds of wood on the other limb. I think it is gonna be a monstrosity, but if successful--cool at the same time He He Heh... ;D -josh

Josh, I like your attitude. Learn from your mistakes and move on. As long as your learning you haven't lost anything. ;) 8)

:'( Oh well, that's a bit more experience tucked under your belt.
Yeah, those last few inches can make you very twitchy...

Well, I am almost done with this take down... One limb is hickory backed ipe and the other is bamboo backed ipe. Gotta do a little more finish work on it and then I will post it in all its glory... or ugliness. Peace! -josh :)

Are the arrows going to be half boo and half cedar split down their length? ::)

Really cool project, Josh. Jsut be careful your bow doesn't turn on you and chase you into oblivion. Hubris will be your downfall, Herr Doktor. :)

Maybe bamboo, with hickory foreshafts?

Thanks everybody, hopefully I can post the finished bow this weekend. Del, I probably am not gonna make any arrows yet for this one I have a few that fly great from it but I DID make a dandy key chain with one of the other limb tips! I am trying to salvage everything I can from the two broken bows. :) -josh

Cool reference Dane! :)

Thanks for spotting it. I hope this bow can stand arctic conditions.
Okay, never actually read the novel, but my wife teaches it in her gothic literature course, so I know the storyline.
Josh, make sure you have a couple of bolts in the handle. lol. And maybe make it green.

Very cool save Josh. I can't wait to see it finished.

Josh,
That bow is looking real good...Remember if the company that sent you that knotty slat doesn't own up...Let me know. I'll fix their screw-up ;)

Thanks for the kind gesture, Rich but I bought the board from a hardwood sawmill and cut the blank out of it myself. I don't think the hardwood place will refund me the money because they sell the boards for decking I think. Can't really hold them responsible since they weren't selling it as bow wood. ;) But thank you that was really kind! :) -josh
