Title: Primitive lockback folding knife.
Post by: loosenock on November 19, 2009, 04:38:16 pm
One of my hobbies is forging out a knife now and then.  This was a whim project I did last summer.

The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel.

Here is a close up of the lock.

The spring is also forge from 1095.

comments and suggestions always appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for your comments gents, they're much  appreciated.  I filed a square peg on the back of the blade and a fitted square hole in the spring.  When the blade is rotated out of the handle, the square peg lifts the spring up until it is aligned with the square hole in the spring.  When they're in alignment with each other, the spring snaps down like a steel trap over the square peg in the blade ridigly locking everything in place.  To close the knife, you use your finger in the ring to lift the spring off the peg and close the blade into the handle.

Here are a couple of pictures with pouch/case
