Title: Picking out Bamboo for a backing?

In picking out a good piece of Bamboo for building a bow what are you looking for on the end of the piece for Power Fibers? I have heard it is a art to picking the different pieces of bamboo for the back, core and belly of a all Bamboo bow Hill style. Thanks for replies. Flint
