Ive got a question on a mulberry stave I recieved, part of the bark was missing and it has about a 5 inch check that goes right down the middle and at least 3/4 inch into the heartwood, would I be better off decrowning it and trying to chase a ring that way?Any advice is appreciated. Also I would have to add on a grip if I did it that way.

I'd treat Mulberry just like osage, chase a ring of heartwood, and dimensions should be close.

i guess it's not long enough to just buck that checked part off?

Thanks for the reply guys,Ill chase it down past the check, patience is a virtue I sometimes have a hard time holding onto tho sorely needed when it comes to making a decent bow.

Like some one once said, Patience is the most important tool in bow making.
