I like to use hickory on Black walnut my self but I have used bamboo and it worked well. Just be sure to get the boo thin and trap it.. Are you asking if river cane will work as a Backing??

yes, well i'm not sore what type of cane it is, we've always called it river cane or .  its BIG  though.  at least 25 ' tall or so. and the bases on sume have at least a 3 to 4 " caliper.

I reflect what has been said.  Boo will work well, just be sure to keep it real thin.   As for river cane, not sure.  I have backed bows with carrizo cane, which will grow much bigger than river cane.  I had to flatten three peaces and lay them side by side.  It was more of a pain in the butt than what it was worth.
