hey i am up in the woods a lot this time of year cause of hunting and i am wondering if any one has any one used elder berry wood?
-
ever asked one of our elders?

Hmmm. All the elder berry bushes Ive cut down were brittle with hollow cores. If we are talking about the same plant, I dont see where they would be any good for a bow. I could be wrong.
I do know the berries make a big mess. ;D

Elderberry is a good bow wood if you can find a straight stave without too much knots. Build up to about 45-50# is possible - likes heat treating.
Short bows with a bending handle are also an option.

yep, my wife shot a 60# elderberry she had built herself (shut up pat ;D ). shot great, but exploded last winter. i guess we shouldn't have taken it straight from the heated archery room (yes we have such a thing ;D ) out to freezing temperatures and shoot it. it exploded into 4 fragments. all she had left in her hands was the handle and the string.

I didn't say a word. Guilty conscience? ;D Just because she can handle a heavier bow than you doesn't mean a thing. ::)
I like your RedNeck tag line. What about Trailer Trash? ;D

There you go, one of the Elders checked in. :D
