I met Tom at Pappy's this spring and had some nice converstaions with him, we struck up an immediate friendship. Tom struck me as a gentle caring man a true southern gentleman. Words fail me in trying to describe him but after knowing him for just a few days he left an impression on me and I wish I could have known him for longer.
Go figure but Tom took a liking to me and gifted me with some staves, while sorting through my wood pile I came upon this white mulberry stave that he gave me. It brought back memories of my chats with Tom.
Having lost my father to cancer when I was 19 and Toms son Patrick losing his father at 18 I feel a kinship with them and understand the sense of loss that Patrick
must be feeling. So I concieved an idea to turn this stave Tom gave me into a bow to be gifted to Patrick as a Memorial to his father. To make it even more special I want to invite all of you that were Tom's friends to participate in this. Would like to do this in a Community bow fashion with as many of Toms friends as possible taking
part and leaving a little of their spirit in the bow. Ideally I think a full set of bow, arrows, quiver and knife would be fantastic. So what say you anyone care to join me?
Here's the stave White Mulberry 67" long and roughly 2.5" wide, it has a naturally reflexed end on it.
I chased a ring on it and need to sand the back a bit more. What do you all think can we make a good bow
from this stave. I'm thinking rigid handle with rawhide backing for durability and snakeskin over the rawhide.

Great idea Dana. I'm sure he'll treasure it.
Hey , how does your dog stick to the wall that way? Dang good grip on those foot pads. May be a cross between a Lab and a Dahl Sheep?
piper
-
As a long time friend of Tom and Patrick I think this is an excellent idea and I'm ready to put a bit of my own blood, sweat and tears into this Community project. Dana, this is a great gesture and I'm sure knowing how much we all care about Tom and his memory and having this Community archery set will have a positive effect to help Patrick deal with the death of his Dad.
Put me in on the list of participants.
-
Thanks Kieth and Pat :)
This stave does have a few issues, if it won't work I also have a set of WM billets Tom gave me or I have some nice osage staves.
-
I'll try to help out, Dana.
-
Thanks Steve, I know your busy and hunting season is coming up but a little of our time is a small thing to give eh :)
-
Pat I hope you got the last PM I sent ya puter acted funny so not sure if it went or not.
And I agree 50# at 28" and I like your other idear also, I delegate that aspect to you ;D
I've laid the bow out with a 4" handle, 1.5" fades, 1.5" for 18" then straight taper to 1/2" nocks
Does this sound ok for W. Mulberry?
-
Dana, I didn't get another reply after my last one.
-
You can count me in also. I've got some special handle wrap material. And I have 4 osage staves from Tom if those don't work out.
-
Did not know him real well, but what I did know about him was he was a very fine individual. I will help out if I can.
-
Sounds like were off to a good start :) I'm going to try and get the stave roughed out tonite, I need to lay it out a bit different as it has
a 3" split in it, but I should have enough room to avoid it.
-
Just let me know what you need me to do.Love to help. :)
Pappy
-
Unfortunately I never got to meet Tom.. But I would be more than honered to help out.. just let me know if you need me..
-
Thanks for the offer David its much appreciated, this bow will need some arrows ;) :)
-
Dana, I have some jap arrow bamboo shafts that Tom gave me this year at Hickory if I can find them in my pile of stuff. I'll be glad to give them to this project.
Alan
-
Sounds good Alan, Think ya can turn them shafts into arrows ;) Say a 1/2 dozen :)
-
Yeah I should be able to Dana, I'll look and make sure I can find them this evening.
Alan
-
Thanks Alan, this is starting to shape up nicely :)
Anyone care to join in? A nice homemade quiver would be a great addition as wood a knife and a bow sock :)
-
It would be great if everyone involved would document what they are contributing with a few pics(High Res please, eh Dana?) and maybe share a few personal anecdotes about Tom. Dana and I both had the idea of putting all of this together in an article for PA Magazine. I think it will be a very nice tribute for Tom.
-
Count Me in..........I got the Bow Sock Dana......do you want Me to send it to You?
-
I have an axis deer hide in the freezer that I could tan. This would take a month or so. I doubt I could make the quality of quiver this project would deserve if someone would volunteer their skills.
-
I found the bamboo that Tom gave me at Hickory and I'll get started on them tomorrow. He said they were some he had cut himself a couple years ago. That's a good idea Pat, I'll take some pics as I work on them.
Alan
-
Good Alan. I'll be down at Dick's rendezvous. We can all talk then.
-
I will cover the knife if that is ok with you guy's..??
-
Sounds good David. Thanks.
-
Busy as heck here at work, I have two co-op students doing a month long internship.
As of now I'm working at roughing out the stave, I had to violate some grain to avoid some bad spots so
it will definately need a rawhide backing, I still need to do some work on it then I will let ya all know if
I think it will make a bow. It will need some heat correcting so if its ok with Pappy I will send it on to him to do his magic :)
David knight is doing a knife.
Mike Roberts is doing the bow sock.
Alan is working on some arrows. How many ya making Alan?
Jeff offered to tan a axis deer hide, anyone willing to make a quiver from it?
Could still use a custom bracer, and if some knappers want to donate some stone points that would be cool.
-
Also don't forget to take a few pictures of yourself with your part in the project.
Please send finished items to PatB as he lives close to Patrick and can do the presentation :)
Thanks for all the help guys, I think this will be a lasting memory for Patrick.
-
You guys are doing a really good thing here :)
-
Dana, I had 8 shafts that Tom gave me. Out of those I have 4 that are going to make a nice matched set and I'll put field points on these. If someone would like to send 2 stone points I'll haft them on sourwood shoots to make 6 arrows total.
Alan
-
If Jeff can get the hide tanned, I'll make the quiver.
-
Alan I have one good stone point that I can send you, PM me your address ok :)
Pat I will PM Jeff and see whats what ok
-
Allen,
I will make you up a couple of stone points for those arrows. Wont prob be as good as patrick could do but they will be serviceable.
Let me know when u will need them.
I could twist up a string as well if no one else has that on their list.
wade
-
Hey Wade, Dana is sending me one. If you can do the other that will be great. Get it to me when you can, I'm going to have the arrows done before the NC knapin so I can give them to Pat there. I'll send you my address.
Alan
-
Dana
This is a great gesture. I don't believe that I met Tom, but I would love to help out with the project. Does anyone have the string, fur silencers covered? Or any other suggestions on what I you need done? I don't know if you want to ship the bow to me to finish, but I would be more than happy to do the finish as well.
-
Does anyone have a picture of him they could post? I'm pretty sure I met him at the Classic but I'm not good with names.
I would be happy to contribute in whatever way I can.
-
I'd be glad to send in a couple of points for some arrows.
Send me you adress too. ;)
-
Ok, I may end up making more arrows than I thought, this will be a record for me...I usually make about two arrows per year! :D
Alan
-
This thing is really starting to take off :) Thanks guys, just shows what a great bunch of folks that are on the board.
I'm making progress on the stave but am only getting a few minutes a day to work on it :(
Here's a couple pictures of Tom.

Pat....now all I need is an Address to send them to you at...and I will get them right out to You...I didnt know for sure how long the Bow was going to be....so I made the Sock so it will fit about any Length Bow

Ronnie I will take ya up on that offer :) And thanks for taking up the cause its folks like you that make this forum something special :)

May God bless you all eh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Rick Trojanowski is going to make the string and silencers for the bow and he has also volunteered to finish the bow, Thanks Rick :)
It will be at leats the week end before I have tiime to finish roughing out the bow :( And I'm still questioning the quality of the stave, but we shall see eh
-
Just let me know where you want me to come in,if you wind up needing a better stave let me know,I can cover that. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy, I may send ya this stave to see what ya think and if its worthy you can straighen it out and floor tiller it :)
Alan I sent you a point today so you should have it by monday, if anyone else has a stone point to spare send it WoodlandRoamer(Alan) :)
-
Sounds good Dana. The arrows are coming along, I should have them finished in time to give them to Pat at the NC knapin in a couple weeks. I may have enough stone points on the way with yours, Shannon, Wade and I can use one of mine if I need another.
Alan
-
its amazing to see ya'll come together on this project , what an unusual group of people , I LIKE IT !!! :)
-
Looks like it going along good.. ;)
-

Yup were definately oddballs :) but in a good way eh ;) I was always taught to take care of your own and Tom and Patrick are family
and in a way Tom will live on through the memories this bow set will create.
-

I could send a point, but you better have a pretty fat diameter shaft ;D.
-
The memorial bow is such a nice thought Dana, I couldn't think of who Tom was until saw the pictures you posted, and then I remembered talking to him also, very soft spoken. I believe he and I talked while I was making my sinew bow string with Rick. After reading the posts I really don't know what I could possibly contribute with the talent you have working on the bow so far. I'll be eager to see it's completion.
VB
-
Well I'm gone fishing for til Monday! :) The arrows are coming along and I should have them by next weekend or so.
Alan
-
allen
sent you out that point today in the mail. U should have it soon.
wade
-
Well here she is, still undecided as to whether there is bow in this piece of wood, mulberry is soft just doesn't seem
very good. There is a crack in the handle but that shouldn't be a big deal. I'm sending it to Pappy on tuesday and we will see what he thinks.
Its obvious I'm not going to win a Best Dressed award in the near future :D

-
Wade, I got your point. It looks great!
Looking good Dana, I hope that stave will work out.
Alan
-
I got a couple of points made up this evening. I'll try to get them in the mail this week. ;)
-

Going to the post office this morning to ship it to Pappy, then I'm off camping till sunday :) Supposed to rain
most of the week but it'll still be better than work eh :)
-
Well have a nice time at the Campgrounds Dana....and don't catch all the Fish out of that small Lake!! Even if it Rains all Week long...at least You will be out away from the Rat Race....and with the Wife alone in Da Woods.... ;D
Pat should be getting a Package today in the Mail from Me....I hope everything fared well in Transport
-
Still waiting on da wife :o :P
Alone in the woods with da wife eh dats kinda scary ;)
Pappy the stave is in the mail :)
-
Mike the package got here today. All is well. Thanks for your participation.
BTW...Mike sent a tooled leather armguard and a bow sock for this Community project.
-
Thanks Pat....glad it made it in one Piece!! And I hope that His Son and Family will feel how much Tom meant to everyone on this Board
-
Llooks like this is moving forward :)
Had to come in from camping as the mother-in-law was admitted to the hospital last night
with chest pains, the wife had to come in and sign some papers then were back to camp.
-
Dana, got your point yesterday. It's going to look great on a sourwood shoot.
Alan
-
Got the stave Dana, What do we want to make out of it,length ,type bow, draw, weight.and what kind of wood did you say it was.It is a very clean stave ,need a lot of straightening but other than that it looks good. How old is it ? I should get something done to it in a few days. Another question,How much do yall want me to do to it and where dose it go next ? GregB will do the tip overlays if that's ok. :)
Pappy
-
Shannon, I got your points in the mail today and they look great.
Alan
-
Gooood! One of them is Ky Sonora and the other is some kinda Oklahoma concrete. ;D
-
I offerd once earlier, is there anything else that is need ed for this project? Let me know if I can help out in any way.
TJ
-
Thanks TJ. It's hard to tell now but I don't think so. I'd like to keep you on speed dial just in case though. ;)
-
I finished the four arrows that I made from jap arrow bamboo shafts that Tom gave me. They have glue on nocks, three feather fletch of goose/wild turkey, polyurethane finish and I stained them with poke berrys. They are all between 520-540 grains.
Here are the stone points that everyone sent. I'll put these on sourwood shoots with self nocks, eastern two feather fletch, stain them with red clay and rub in deer fat for the finish. The top two points here are from Shannon, the third down from Dana and the bottom one from Wade.
Alan
-
Nice.
-
8)
-
Dang!! you got more arrows there than you have ever had at one time :P ;D
-
The stave is straightened ,I will start floor tillering it this week I hope. Greg put it on the form Sat.It turned out nice.Very light feeling,I have never worked with Mullberry so some hints might help from
some one that has. :) Before and after :)

I'm back from camping :( Pappy we're looking for a 50# bow at 28", rigid handle no cut in shelf. As for how much to do on it, I guess I'm not sure ???
Do we have an offer from anyone to tiller it???
I need to catch up at work here so more later.
-
Dang Greg....you did an Awesome Job on that Droopy Piece of Mulberry!! Just for that....I have got a nice piece of twisted Vine Maple that needs you expertise......... 8)........ ;)
-
Alan the arrows and points look great :)
So who wants to work on the bow? Pappy if you want to tiller it thats fine with me, Greg's gonna do the overlays
someone want to shape the handle and skin her? I have a set of eastern timber rattler skins I will donate :)
RictT has offered to do the finish work :)
-
Dose it need to be backed ? I think I read that somewhere ,not sure.If so That needs to be done now. :)
Pappy
-
I don't know mulberry so not sure but I think rawhide would be a good idear, I think Pat said he would back it.
Lets wait and see what Pat says eh :)
-
Allen,
Those arrows look GREAT! nice job.
was just wondering if you had any you were shooting this year or whether you were gonna sorta 'borrow' these for the season and donate them after. :)
Bow is looking great. this is coming along nice.
wade
-
Generally mulberry should be about 10% longer and wider than osage. For safety sake,a rawhide backing might be the ticket.
You shaped that stave up nicely, Greg.
-
Ok so who's doing what next???
-
How about I try and come up with some backing, floor tiller and get it braced,Work the handle some and GregB put on the tips.I will leave a tiller string with it. If no one wants to finish tillering it I can do that also, just thought some others may want a hand in it. :) Not sure if I have enough raw hide,I will look today and see.Haven't used any lately. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks guys, Wade I have a few of my own and I'm working on a bunch more now so I won't need to borrow these. :) I'll have the others finished some time this week.
Alan
-

Sounds good Pappy, if you need some rawhide I believe I have enough let me know eh.
-
Pappy....I know I have already made a Sock...and an Arm Guard....but if need be....I have some Deer rawhide that I made two years ago....I think I have enough left for one more Bow....let me know...as for Backing it....I never sen the Stave....but I have never Backed Mulberry before....just made it like 4 inches longer (68-70 inches)....and 2 inches wide in the Fades....and they worked fine...but if in doubt....you know....... ;)
-
Mike the stave is only 67" Tip to tip and 1.5" wide at the fades its all I had to work with by the time I removed the junk.
Guess we will see what pappy thinks as the brings it brace, I've been in doubt on this stave since the beginning :-\
-
Dana ....should be fine if it's Backed then....didn't see what the Length was....but 57 is a bit short for Mulberry without backing it with at least some thin Rawhide
-
Man, you guys did a number on that piece of wood. Awesome job straightening it. I have some whitetail rawhide if needed. It is not long enough for the length of the bow, but if spicing it in the handle is OK, the piece should be fine. I'll start the sinew string this weekend. Still would love to do the finish work on it.
-
57"isn't too short for Mulberry if the stave is heavy and dense. I've made a sinew backed one 44"that pulled 28". I've had my doubt's about that stave, sound's like it is not dense enough. Good Mulberry is a shade in yellow under Osage and as heavy as Osage. I've made the limbs the same width as Osage bows. After a time it will turn just as dark. We have a white mulberry down here that is like Balsa wood when it dries.
-
This looks like light colored Osage, but not very dense, really pretty light wood ,at least that is how it feels to me.I think for 28 draw I should back it. I didn't get to the shop yesterday but will try and check today on the rawhide.I don't think I have enough but I will let yall know.I Think I will back it first, before I start tillering. It is clean wood but seems light. :) It should make 50lbs but from the way it feels I think it's going to be pretty thick. It is only 1 3/8s wide the best I could measure.I will keep
yall updated. :)
Pappy
-
Eddie its 67" tip to tip, Pappy if you don't mind messing with it go for it but perhaps we should change gears and go with an osage ???
If so I believe I have one already chased and profiled, will have to look though.
-
Either way,I will go for it and see what happens,It may make a great bow, only way to tell is give it a try. :)
Pappy
-
Man, i like that vise bench a lot.....or is that a vise horse.......or a bow vice combination portable work station? Anyway, it looks good. I'd probably put a ruff shelf on the bottom, way low down and keep a couple fifty pound sandbags on it. piper

I've been watching this thread from the start. I lost my Dad from cancer coming up on 6 years, September 18. I was 28 at the time. Can't imagine how much harder it would have been at 18. I was just reminiscing on the difficulties that we faced going through that time, it always gets me this time of year. I think what all you guys are doing, this whole project, is top notch. I know that if it were me in this position I would profoundly appreciate this type of community consideration. I haven't met any of you all yet, but I'm looking forward to a time where I will. I truly admire this gesture.
-
Thanks Parnell, looking forward to meeting also :)
-
Thanks for your thoughts Parnell and I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad when I was 19 (1969). I didn't even know he was sick but he went into the hospital on Friday and passed on Monday. It all happened so quick and at that age everything is a blur anyway.
We are truly a family here on PA and situations like this is when we shine! 8)
-
Amen Pat I also lost my dad to cancer at 19(1979) and had to watch him suffer through it, was at his bedside as he took his last breath :'(
Lost my mom to cancer in 2002 and also had to watch her go through it I was at her bedside as she took her last breath :'(
Dang I can't go on its still a raw nerve and I start to cry just thinkin about it :'( :'( :'( Missing them both :'(
-
Thanks Parnell, I'm sorry for all of your losses. Well I have the stone point arrows all finished. Here they are, sourwod shoots stained with some red clay, burnished and then rubbed with some fat. The points are hafted with pine pitch and sinew. The fletching is two feather with wild turkey tail feathers and they all weigh from 620 to 640 grains. The top two points are from Shannon, the third down from Dana and the bottom one from Wade.

DanaM, I held my father's hand in his last breath.
-
P.s Woodland Roamer - those are some real worthy arrows.
-
Very nice arrows,He will love them. I plan on working on the bow this weekend,I will let
you know how it goes.I plan on at least getting to brace. :)
Pappy
-
Beautiful arra's Alan :)
-
Dana
When are you looking to get all this stuff together?
Ron
-
As we can ronnie, no hurry but no sense letting it idle along either. Send finished stuff to PatB
-
I already have the arm guard and bow sock from El D and am expecting to get the arrows from Alan after this weekend. If anyone is ready so send out what they've made send it on. If you need my address just ask.
-
Where am I supposed to send the bow when we get it tillered and tips on ?
Pappy
-
Where am I supposed to send the bow when we get it tillered and tips on ?
Pappy
I have a set of canebrake skins I will donate, Rick T said he would finish it, I can send the skins to him or
if he doesn't want to do the skins you can send it back to me and I will skin it. I'll PM Rick
-
Just let me know,I don't mind putting the skins on or any of the rest for that matter, just thought some others wanted in on the finishing work.
Pappy
-
I sent Rick a PM and also eddie as he wanted in on it and said he had something special for the handle :)
-
Cool ,it will be a little while before I am done anyway, fitting it in between getting ready for deer season Ya know. ;) :) I will try and get it done in the next couple of weeks, don't want it to turn out like the friendship bow,the boy will be to old to shoot it. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
I hear ya on deer season Pappy, opens Oct 1st here and I don't even have a stand up :o
-
Come on down,it opens the 26th here,I have 14 up and still like one or 2. :)
Pappy
-
Come on down,it opens the 26th here,I have 14 up and still like one or 2. :)
Pappy
Man wish I could :'(
-
Thanks everyone, but it was Shannon, Wade and Dana's points that made them look good!
Alan
-
As we can ronnie, no hurry but no sense letting it idle along either. Send finished stuff to PatB
Nothing like that I just didn't want to be draggin behind. Ron
-
If Dana wants to hang on to his Timber Rattler skins, I can come up with a copperhead or two. Maybe even a set of Timbers.
I don't care to glue them on either.
-
Come on down,it opens the 26th here,I have 14 up and still like one or 2. :)
Pappy
I am on my way!!!! No just kidding...but seriously....what does an Out of State Deer License cost there Pappy??
-
I told Dana I'd glue the on so if he is still game send them to me. actually rattlesnake skins would look better than copper heads with the skin I have for the handle.
-
Around $200.00 Mike. So when yall decide let me know where to send the bow next.
I plan on working on it today and on and off over the weekend,I will keep yall posted
on how it is going. If things go bad I will send an Osage,I know it ant one of Tom's but it's the though that counts, and we for sure want him to have a good reliable bow that will last
a life time. :)
Pappy
-
Yup lets wait and see what Pappy thinks of this stave come monday, heck he may cook brats with it ;)
Thanks Shannon and eddie, rickT has also offered to apply the skins and finish it, guess the handle should be last
so maybe it can go to Rick then on to eddie for the handle and break in eh :)
-
Great! Let me break it!,,,,in. :D
-
I haven't skinned out any of the rattlers I collected this year. I better get on that and see what I have. I'm not sure I have a matched set of them, but we'll see. ;)
If we're letting Eddie break it in, Pappy better tiller it to about 36". Eddie draws one back past his ear. ;D
-
if no one else has any I have some deer rawhide ready to go. All I need are some dimensions. Plus I have some nice hides ready to make some possible pouches or medicine bags out of.
TJ
-
TJ, a possibles bag or medicine bag would be a cool addition. If you are up for it, it will be appreciated.
-
I will get started on one ASAP.
-
Got it tillered out this weekend,51@28 right now. I have flipped the tips and heat treated it
and plan on tweaking the tiller in a week or so.Greg Has it now to do the tips and a little handle
work. Then I will send it on after shooting it some .It turned out very nice so far and was shot several time before the tips and heat. The wood seem pretty springy and shoot really nice. See what yall think.
Pappy

-
Hot diggity dog we have a bow ;D Looks great pappy and my thanks to you and Greg :)
-
I think it is going to be fine,I just need to do a little more checking after it re hydrates
and shoot it a little more,I want to be sure it is going to hold.I don't see any reason why
it won't but you know it is wood. I should have it finished next weekend if I don't get
to busy Killing and skinning deer. ;) ;D ;D I don't know about all Mullberry but this thing
really reacts to heat about as good as any wood I have worked with. Should be a good one and is very smooth. :)
Pappy

see what yalll think. :)

It's looking really good, You guys did some fine work. I got the skins from Dana on Saturday.
-
Bows looking great pappy :) Ronnie don't sweat it on the Hawk no hurry as the bow still has a ways to go yet.
David glad to hear the knife is coming along and thats mighty generous of Mike to do the sheath :)
-
I figured that Someone Else might have wanted to get Involved with this too.....But I will be glad to whip Up a nice Veggie Tanned Sheath for it and send it and the Knife off to Pat
-
It hasn't been shot much yet, but so far the bow seems like it is going to be a really good performer! I'm impressed with its crisp action... :)
-
The bow is looking great guys! Nice work.
Alan
-
The bow does look great. Thanks to everyone for everything. I may have to keep all this nice stuff for myself! ;D
-
Here is a picture of the hide I sent to Pat B today. He will be turning it into a quiver for the project. This is one of the hides I did for the Tan-A-Long in the "how to" section. This is an axis hide- they are smaller than white tails and the hide is much thinner. I feel very fortunate to have been able to contribute to such a worthwhile project! I suspect I may have met him at the TN Classic last year, but did not know him personally as many others on here did. This project shows the quality of people that are involved on this website. I'm only 28, but I can imagine this is how our ancestors would have expected everyone to behave in society. You take care of your neighbors. I hope Tom's son enjoys everything!
-
Jjeff the hide looks fantastic :) Thanks for participating in the project and I agree we take care of our own just like any
family does :)
-
Hide looks great ,and the tan along was very good.Thanks. :)
Pappy
-
Beautiful hide, it will undoubtedly make a fine contribution for the quiver! :)
-
Mike, if you haven't already started on that sheath, I'll be glad to make one. I know you've already put a lot of work into the project, I've been looking for somewhere to squeeze myself in for a contribution as Tom was a good friend of mine.
-
Hillbilly I should be done with the knife tomorrow.. I'm sure Mike wont mind.. ;)
-
here is the knife.. It is Damascus blade with a Brazilian cherry / Birds eye maple handle.. It has a tru oil finish on the handle..

Thanks TJ, send it on to me. PM me for my mailing address.
EVERYONE...please take pic of yourself with your contribution, in high res and e-mail them to me.

I have sent my contribution to this memorial project to Patb. Sorry but I forgot to take pictures. Really I did not want to break another camera taking pics of my ugly mug ;D. I just hope that the possibles bag I made will do. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute to such a fine individual.
-
Thanks again TJ. I'll take pics of the great bag you made soon. Then I'll get Hillbilly to Photoshop you into the pic! ;D
-
That won't end well at all. :o
-
Got the knife yesterday afternoon, and it looks even better in person than in pixels. I'll get started on a sheath.
-
Glad to hear it made it there safe.. Cant wait to see the set when complete.. ;)
-
TJ I'm sure the possibles bag is great can't wait to see it :)
-
Thanks Dana. I am just worried about the photo shopped picture of me.

Sorry guys,it's back to the drawing board. We shot the bow Sat.After 20 /30 shots it blew,it broke
straight across the back. Not sure but anyway we have a plan.Big A has an osage stave we wil have ready in a few days.Sorry we can't use the wood Tom gave Dana but he will get a good bow anyway. :( :'(
Pappy
-
Told ya I had my doubts about that stave, oh well sh*# happens eh. My thanks to Big A for kicking in a stave :)
-
That sure is a Bummer! A lot of good work into that One...... :'(....Thanks Big A.....We all appreciate all of the fine work that has gone into this Memorial so far and still to come
-
Dana must have piled all that other wood he carted home on top of that good stave and damaged it. ::) It sounds like Greg is on a roll this year, thought his arms looked longer than mine. I saw him reach around a little kid and get the last piece of pie without him even knowing it. ;D
-
Well if anything goes wrong with Big A's stave, I have a super nice piece of sage already roughed out and ready to go. If ya think we might need it, I can bring it down Thursday. ;)
-
That's too bad. It was turning out to be a really fine looking bow.
-
It sounds like Greg is on a roll this year, thought his arms looked longer than mine. I saw him reach around a little kid and get the last piece of pie without him even knowing it.
I'm beginning to wonder, I broke one for Robustus during the last Tn. Classic. He had warmed it up some with several half draws, handed it to me and I half drew it several times then went to full draw and it snapped. I only pull around 27", just bad timing I guess.
-
Man, when you break one, you break it good, don't you? :) Oh well, better breaking on us than on the final recipiant. I've got wood, too if you need more.
-
BigA and his pretty wife Beverly brought the bow over to my house Monday evening. It's a good looking bow and already shooting yet not finished. It's osage and 62" tip to tip. Two billets spliced in the handle. I think it has one layer of sinew on it.
I know 62" will handle a 28" draw, especially with osage. Does anyone think we would be safer with a little longer bow for that draw length? I've got two roughed in HHB bows that I think are around 64" to 66", can't remember for sure. I know Pappy probably has several started as well as others. BigA is fine with us using his if everyone thinks that design is okay for the person.
-
Sounds good to me Greg, I say go with it :)
-
Hey if any of u guys need a stave let me know...I have various species of upstate New York...sorry about that bow OUCH looked like it coulda hurt! Well I can say I had my share of broken bows but what can u do. Anyway if I can assist U in anyway dont hesitate!!!
CHEERS!!! 8)
-
Got the Osage bows tips on this weekend and flipped the tips.I tillered it out to 27 yesterday, looking good,I need to take it another inch and take off a few pounds. It is 55@27
now so I need to take off 5 or 6 lbs.Should have it ready by the end of week.Sorry for the hold
up but as yall all know stuff happens.I think he will like this one. :) I will let yall know when I am ready to ship. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy....there ain't nobody rushing you ....thats for Sure....Out of everyone that is Participating in this Memorial....I believe that it is You that is giving More than any One of the rest of Us....and I thank You. Also....it sounds like it is going to be one really nice Bow.
-
I'm finally getting around to making the quiver today, or at least starting on it. Got rained out of work.
-
I'm working a little something for the project seeing as how the stave didn't work, I felt I should do something else :)
Will post pics when I hae em done as for what I building you will have to wait and see :D
Mike is right Pappy and Greg are doing a lot of work on the bow and they have my thanks for doing so, of course I know they love building bows
so i'm sure its a labor of love anyway ;D
-
Yes, Thanks to Pappy and Greg for their hard work. Thanks to all who have contributed.
-
Not a problem,we love doing it ,just don't want to hold things up.BigA had this pretty close
anyway.Just needed a little tweaking and flipping the tips and tip work.It is smooth to draw just need some weight taken off. This will be great and I am sure he is going to love this stuff. :) Great
bunch of guys here to do this for him.All of yall. :)
Pappy
-
You're all welcome, I enjoy the bow making as Dana said...
As Pappy mentioned, don't forget BigA's contribution to this effort. The bow we're now using was tillered with a layer of sinew all completed by BigA prior to his donating it. Pappy put some recurve in the tips and is tweaking the tiller and draw weight. I did the overlays. :)
-
Thanks Anthony :)
-
Well just read this post for the first time. I remember talking to Tom at the Classic for a few minutes seemed like a great guy. No other sport, hobbies, or addiction I've have ever took part in would have had so many caring and giving people as this. My hat is off to all of you. Just wish I had the skills to do something as well.
-
BearG You already have... ;)
-
Will everyone involved please have someone take a pic of you(or ya'll) with your contribution. I'm am writing an article for PA and need high resolution pics to send in to Ed. Please be sure they are high resolution.(or I'll sick Dana on ya! ;D )
Guys, there in no real rush. Take your time but don't procrastinate. ;D
Please send HIGH RESOLUTION pics to...
marciaandpat@citcom.net
If you would like to make a short comment as a caption for your pic, that would be great. If anyone would like to add a little personal anecdote to the article please send that to me also. With all the pics there probably won't be much room so please keep it short and sweet.
I'll need a list of the participants and their contribution(s) so I don't leave anyone out.
Thanks to everyone involved, both physically and emotionally.
-
With 2 work-less rainy days this week I had plenty of time to cut up the hide and stitch it back together as this quiver. The skin is axis deer that Jeff Utley tanned and contributed for this project. Jeff, the hide was a pleasure to work with. The stiffness is perfect for a quiver. Jeff did a beautiful job with this hide. I'll take better pics when the weather clears up. I couldn't stand not sharing this with ya'll. I am pleased with how it came out.
-
very nice.
-
WOW! ;D You did a great job Pat! I am thankful I got to contribute something to the project. The quiver is quite amazing...I may have to replicate it with another hide :D
-
Thats an Awesome Quiver Pat....got time for another one............... ;D Sent you some Pictures....Hope that they will do.
Michael
-
Very nice Pat,well done. :)

-
Most excellent work, Pat.
-
Wow Pat that is one awesome quiver. You do some beautiful work, very impressive.
-

-
Ok Guys yall are doing real good on this bow and other tools the arrow heads look good but sorry about the first bow better to have broke on the first stages than the new owner haveing it fail with him. Keep it up can't wait till yall get somemore done on the bow and hawk. One day I'll do it justice and be able to tiller a bow when I want and not get it done and worry about it. Whip
-
We got the bow ready to be shipped. It turned out 54 at 28 ,hope that will work.Greg will ship it Tuesday. It turned out nice and shoot good.Hope he likes it.Pat I sent the picture of it as you ask.
High resolution. ;) ;D
Pappy
-
Excellent, I'm looking foward to working on it. I have the skins that Dana sent me ready to go.
-
Rick, Pappy sent me your address and I'll send the bow along to you. I found a string I had made previously for another bow. It is a new string and will do some stretching, so you'll probably have to twist it some to maintain the brace height until its shot in. I'm also including a bow stringer just in case he uses one. The tips are a little on the short side, and this stringer fits it where a lot of them would cover up the string groove. Good luck with the snake skins! ;)
-
Sounds great guys :)
-
Well, I better get my end started. Sounds like it won't be long. :)
-
I need to finish something up also, so I can send it to Pat
-
Sounds good. Did you guys write something on it, or do you want me to do it before the finish. If so what do you want it to say?
-
Thanks Pappy. I got the "high resolution" pic. ;) Thanks again to you and Greg...and everyone else. Rick, we should add something in writing on the bow like "In Memory Of Tom Brennan
from his Primitive Archer family". or something like that. Anyone else have any ideas?
Everyone involved be sure to have a high res. pic taken of you and your contribution and e-mail it to me.
-
That sounds good to me Pat.Be sure and mention BigA [Anthony Hayner donated the stave.
He wasn't there Sat. for me to get the picture. He's camera shy anyway. ;) ;D
Pappy
-
PA is donating a shirt and I suggested to Pat that he write everyones name on it :)
-
If you guys want, I've got some real fine point pens and my handwriting is pretty good. I could put it on when I put the grip on.
-
The bow is in the mail to Rick...going priority.
-
Before I present the set to Patrick and send in the article to PA I will be sure to have every ones name included.
-
Eddie
That's fine with me as long as you think it will be ok over the finish. I'm planning on using Tru Oil. My writing isn't the best so this will get my wife out of doing it. ;)
-
Rick, I usually put a finish on to get it smooth and then pen over that and then spray Poly and then Tru-oil. If you guys want me to do it, just let me know what to put on it and I'll do my Bestus job.
-
I got the bow today. It looks good. The tips are SWEET. I'll be starting the finish work tomorrow night. Was the sinew put on with hide glue or Titebond? Just wondering about my glue choice for the skins. I usually use Titebond liquid hide glue (bottle) for skins. It gives me a long working time and easy to fix air bubbles.
-
Rick, you can still use TB over hide glue.
-
My hat is off to all who participated in this fine endever. Can't wait to see the finished set and read the article. kenneth
-
I used hide glue on the sinew.
Big A
-
Cool can't wait to see the finished bow,and the rest of the set. What all is he getting ? I know about the Bow/quiver and arrows, what else is on the list of things ? Without going through this whole thread. :)
Pappy
-
There was a fine damascus knife in the mix I recall. :)
-
Pappy....now My Memory is as long as my ______....but I will give it a TRY!!
Dana gave the First Stave
Eddie offered to wrap the Bows Handle
Jeffutley57 donated a Axis deer hide that He tanned for a Quiver
PatB made the Plains Quiver

-

El D-
Mullet is doing the handle work.
I got to working on it tonight, cleaned it up and ready to do the skins tomorrow.
Yep....thats what I wrote above....Eddie offered to do the Handle...... ;D
-
OOPs I missed that.
-
I got the skins on and de-scaled, finished sanding and got the first coat of tru oil on. I should be ready to ship it to Eddie on Fri.
Pat- what exactly is a high resolution picture? Can I take it with a regular digital camera?
Rick
-
Take a Regular Picture witht the Digital Camera Rick....just don't shrink it to send it....leave it Full Sized....thats all they want... ;)
-
Thanks El-D, I'm a tad on the technologically un-savvy side.
-
We were all at one time Technologically Challenged......... >:D
-
Don't count me out guys I'm still on the hawk project work has settled down an little and I'll have a little time to dedicate to the hawk. Sorry for the drag assin. Ron
-
I've been working on the sheath as I've had time-got it about 3/4 finished. Can't wait to see the set finished and all together.
-
Guys, we have no deadline. When everything is done and I receive it, I will pass it on to Patrick. Until then, just keep on keeping on! ;D
-
So, do the rest of us have to wait till this hits the magazine, to see what fine work ya'all did? I must say for sure, this is a great thing your doing, it won't replace a good man, but it'll sure make a son feel good I bet.
-
Dano, when I get everything together I'll take pics of the set and of Patrick with the set and post them here for everyone to see.
-
;D
-
Just one more coat of Tru oil. I'll be shipping it to Eddie on Monday.
-
I will probably be Admonished or Inundated with PM.s....But.....Sure wish that the Originator of this Thread was still Involved...there has been a whole lot of Heart and Soul poured into this Memorial for Tom...and it don't seem as complete any more...JMO
-
The originator is still involved in this project. He is mentioned in the article as the originator and for contributing the original stave and will be pictured working on the beginnings of original bow. I'm even adding pics of the broken first bow to show how other PA members step in when needed to complete a task...but Dana was never eliminated from Tom's Memorial Bow Project!
-
Thanks Pat
-
That's good to know. It's all packed and ready to ship to Eddie.
-
Good deal, Rick. Thanks 8)
-
Will everyone involved please send me a e-mail (marciaandpat@citcom.net) with your contribution. I'm trying to get all the info together so I don't leave anyone out. Thanks, Pat
-
Rick, I just got home today and the bow made it OK. I sure wish you sent directions on how to open it up, ??? ::) ;)
-
Just cut the tape around the end of the tube then the cardbord "cap" should come off. I'm a bit paranoid about what the USPS could do to it. ;) The stick on the outside is just to stiffen it so they couldn't bend it.
-
Cool can't wait to see it finished. :)
Pappy
-
Here are 6 beautiful Tonkin cane target arrows with turkey feathers that Dana made to add to the set. Thanks Dana. ;) 8)

Man if those re half as nice in Person...they are some nice Arrows!! Good Job Dana....this Memorial is looking to be one Spectacular Homage to Tom and gift for His Family
-
Those are some beautiful arrows. Nice work Dana
-
Very nice work Dans, just beautiful. :)
Pappy
-
Beautiful arrows Dana, very nice work! I'd be scared to shoot those they look so good.
Alan
-
That is a heck of a job on those arrows, Dana.
-
Does Tom's son follow this site or is this all going to be a surprise for him?
-
The last time I saw Patrick on here was last year. His dad came down to the Dade City Knap in and I helped load him up with rock for his son. Patrick came on and thanked me. I don't think he has been on since then. I hope it is a suprise. He is a good boy and I'd like to hunt and chip points with him again at Chris's.
Oh, I'm going to finish the bow up this week and will have some pictures up.
-
I believe it will be a surprise unless he saw it on here. Patrick is a good kid! He's had a rough road the last few years so this should put some things in perspective for him. Let him know that there are friends out there that care. I've known Patrick for quite a while. I gave him his first wood bow when he was a little tyke. That's the day we learned we shared the same name. 8)
-
Can't wait to see all the stuff together and the look on his face. :)
Pappy
-
Nice work on the arras Dana.
-
Here's a sneak peek of Patricks bow. I have to apologise for my stitching in the handle. I had a scale that wanted to pull out on me after I was almost finished. The claw is from a guaranteed 12.5' lizard.
-
Very cool handle wrap Eddie. 8)
-
Thanks, Pat. Wish you had stitched it up.
-
Hmmm, wonder where that lizard cme from? ::)
-
That is a fine looking bow. Great job everyone.
-
Fine job Eddie, I can't wait for more pictures now. ::) Man!! Patrick is going to love this.
-
Thank you Dano. It was only a small part compared to what the other guys did. I wish my picture of Greg's tips was better, they are sweet!
Shannon, It came out of a ditch. ::) 8) ;)
-
The grip looks good, Nice to see it all together.
-
Great job Eddie and everyone else, looks good. He should love that. :)
Pappy
-
Pat, I put the bow in the mail this morning. should be there by Saturday.
-
Cool! Looking forward to seeing, holding and shooting this fine weapon.
I talked to Alan in Hendersonville today and we will meet with Patrick at Alan's house for the presentation. As far as I know, Patrick still doesn't know anything about this. It should be a big but pleasant surprise for him.
-
O man wished I could be there to see his face.Very well done guys it's a good thing yall have
done and might ease the pain ,just a little. :)
Pappy
-
I got the bow today and I can say she's a real beauty!!! I think I'll just keep it for myself and give Patrick one of my old bows. ;D
-
Hah, hah. I thought the same thing. Especially after I shot it.
-
You guys are brave, My luck and I would have broke it. ;). I can't wait to see the whole package together with the new owner.

Woodland Roamer .. Arrows???? ;)
-
Yeah, Alan made a nice set of arrows, I have them here. We need to meet up one afternoon, Pat, so I can give you this stuff. I finally got some time today and got the knife sheath finished. It's braintan buckskin over leather with a few thousand authentic old Italian glass seed beads sewn on it in a Cheyenne design. I'm not the greatest at beadwork, but I wanted to make something special for Tom, got a lot of hours in this one. I'll try to get some better pics when it's daylight.

Dang Steve that is incredible!!! Beautiful work. Maybe we can meet this coming weekend. I'm working every weekday(cept Thursday) unless it's raining. Let me know what works for you.
I don't know why I left Alan off this list. He is on the original list that goes with the story.
-
Beautiful Steve,I love that as I am sure he will. :)
Pappy
-
that's a beautiful knife sheath, Steve! Really looks great with the knife David made. :) -josh
-
Steve, that is absolutely beautiful. Amazing work.
-
Yeah that sheath is beautiful Steve! I can't wait to see all this together and given to Patrick.
Alan
-
That is a real nice sheath Steve, you been study'in with Becca?
-
Hmmm, Cuz was wondering why that last one was prettier than him. ::)
-
Eddie, you ain't right.... ;D ;D
-
Simply beautiful sheath Eddie!
-
Ummm, Greg, I didn't make it, the Hillbilly Parker did. ::)
-
Eddie, is the 3Rivers bow sock the bow came in yours? Mike made and sent one for the bow so I will get this sock back to you if it is yours.
-
Pat, I think it is Rick's.
-
Thanks, I'll PM him.
-
Pat, I'm probably gonna be over at West Henderson Saturday for a wrestling tournament that Cody's in-think we could meet at Mills River or somewhere that morning?
-
Probably so Steve. What time?
-
Maybe about 8:30 or so at Mills River restaraunt?
-
I think I can make that. ;)
-
Of course, you might have to eat a stack of pancakes before you go home...:)
-
Everything looks fantastic guys, can't wait to see pics of Patrick and the full set :)
-
Dana, I'm picking up the last of the set on Saturday morning when I meet Hillbilly. I will stage a good pic to post here for everyone to see the set and as soon as I can make arrangements with Patrick I'll get over to Hendersonville and make the presentation. 8)
-
Got the arrows that Woodland Roamer(Alan) made, some cane and some hardwood shoot shafts(all very nice) with stone heads by Saw File(Shannon)r, N2enerything(Wade) and Dana and the knife by knightd(David) and beaded sheath(by Hillbilly) from Steve(Hillbilly) this morning and enjoyed a nice breakfast with Steve and Tina(Mrs. Hillbilly). The set is almost complete. I will take some pics of everything to post here and some more when I present the set to Patrick.
-
Looking forward to seeing them, Pat.
-
sounds like it all came together great...great job by everyone
-
Havn't been back to this thread in quite a while;
really nice stuff you guy made here, every single piece of it!
-
Well, here it all is. This is everything except the PA T shirt and that is on the way thanks to Sarah and the other fine folks at PA. We can all be proud of our thoughtful generosity in the making of this set in honor of Tom Brennan(Tom B). I'm sure Patrick will be proud and honored to receive it.
I will get a good bunch of pics when I present the set to Patrick in the next few weeks.
Thanks to everyone that participated physically and for the moral support from everyone else. 8) 8) 8)

i just spent the last hour or so on this cold Sunday morning, reading this thread. Although i'm new to this site, i feel like i got to know a few of you here a wee bit. This is an unbelievable display of brotherly love, and compassion for this mans son. The group effort put forth by all of you has been outstanding.
Once again my faith in humanity has been restored.... you folks are wonderful people for doing this. I'm getting all choked up here, so i'm going to sign off. i need to head out to the shop, and i don't need ice chunks in my beard first thing now.
i think i'm going to like this site. :)

Kirk....I am sure that You won't find a more caring and tighter knit Family than You have run into here....We may have a Squabble here and there...but You name Me one Family that doesn't!! But when it is all Said and Done....We are always Here for One Another through Thick and Thin.....I made a lot of Friends for Life at Pappy's this last Spring....once you get to put a Face and a Voice to the Person You chat with on this Site....it all falls into Place....Welcome Aboard and God Bless
Pat....It is sure going to be Something once Tom's Son Patrick gets this Surprise dropped on Him....I wish I could Be There to see it come down....I was glad to make what I did and wish that I could have Made More...but then I would have been cutting another out of a chance to Participate in this genuinely Blessed Gift for a Most Deserving Son....It turned out Beautiful Guys....and I am very Proud to be involved in this with the rest of You....Tom will be remember by All in this Group for all time to come....God Bless....and Happy Holidays to You and Yours

-
Amazing work... So much talent put to work in such a good cause.
Well Done everyone!
-
The set looks beautiful guys, when we started this I new it would be good but this has exceeded my expectations. I also wish I could be there at the presentation.
I only knew Tom briefly but it was obvious to me that he was a kind and gentle man and faced his situation with courage and not despair.
Tom may you rest in peace and know that you are not forgotten as you will on in the memories of all the people that you have touched :'(
-
Wow, it looks really good all together. Great job everyone and thanks Dana for getting it all started.
-
Yea, It does look great and I hope Patrick likes it. I'm sure he will, he is one, good, young man. I'll miss Tom, and was hopeing we'd get one more hunting trip with all of us together.
-
Man that all turned out REALLY, REALLY cool. Beautiful stuff.
Thanks all for throwing in. and dana for starting us off.

-
It is such a beautifully inspired token of care and kindness to respect a man from the primitive archery family which was more than just a friend the way you have done.....
-
The set together, looks really tremendous. A heart felt congratulations and well done to all of you who contributed.
It has been a blessing to watch the progress on this one.
-
I'm still gonna do my part. Its coming along slowly. Time is precious these days. Guess I should be glad that I have a job.Ronnie
-
Ronnie, it's the thought that counts. We know where your heart is. 8)
-
This coming Sunday, December 20th, we will have a cookout at Alan Brown's house in Hendersonville, NC to present the Tom B Memorial Bow set to Tom's son Patrick. Alan called last evening and said he had asked Patrick over on Sunday for a cookout and to shoot a few arrows. Patrick knows nothing about the set so this should be a great surprise. 8) I'll take pics and share with all. Hopefully the "Hillbilly" family can make it over too.
-
That's great Pat! I'll be checking the computer Sunday to see how it went, give us a report asap!! :)
Alan
-
Great! Wish I could be there. Tell him I said hi, please.
-
Eddie, I wish you could too. I'll be sure Patrick knows we are all thinking about him and that we are there if he need us.
-
I think we all wish we could be there :)
-
This will be great, can't wait to hear all about it.
-
Pat,
maybe you should take a video camera with you...
Then everyone can watch it...and be able to see the moment!!!
Just a thought!!!
-
Pat,
maybe you should take a video camera with you...
Then everyone can watch it...and be able to see the moment!!!
Just a thought!!!
And a really great Thought at that!!
How are you doing Sarah....back to 100% again??
-
Do to our somewhat unusual weather conditions we may have to be postponed until a later date. It started snowing at daybreak and should go through tomorrow with amounts from about 4" to 18" or 20" in some areas. I'll keep ya'll posted.
Sarah, that is a great idea but I don't own a video camera and I'm sure Alan doesn't either. If we can find one we will surely record the presentation. ;)
-
Pat....you are in Real Estate...and You have no Camcorder?? I find that Odd!! All of the websites that You got to selling Homes and Property have Virtual Walk Throughs and thousands of Pictures to view...How do you sell a Thing.......... ;D.......... ;)
-
These days I'd rather have a buyer than a camcorder. ;D I can just chip out the MLS info on a tablet of stone with a lithograph or two to top it off. ;)
Here is a scene from my front porch just a while ago. We have about 3" now.

Looks like a Christmas Card Pat.....really purdy weather to stay inside and look out at!!!!
-
Can't stay in. Went out with the dogs this morning and will again in a few minutes. It is nice to walk in the woods on a day like this...although it's been sleet lately.
By tomorrow morning the snow ought to be just right for a sled run. I bought my sled 5 tears ago and haven't been able to use it yet. I'll keep my cell handy with 911 on speed dial. ;D
-
Well Pat, if you start at the top of your drive, and can ride that sleigh all the way to the bottom,,all I can say if you are on #$%^%$$ of a man......lol.
-
That's the run Charlie. From the house all the way to the lake. It's all down hill. This ought to be fun with the shape my back is in. ;D
-
I am sure you would and could make it to the bottom without any trouble. The problem is getting back up there.....lol....call ahead and have the 911 crew just meet you at the campsite...........
-
I want to ride!! ;D.. Pat we are at 8 or 9" right now.. >:(
-
The main storm has past but we might get some wrap around stuff later tonight and tomorrow. We've probably got 5" now.
-
They are calling for 14-18" here.....want me to send you some back????????
-
Get on that sled and ride Pat, what don't kill ya only makes ya tougher eh ;D
-
why aint you Hunting Dana?? I woke up late or I would be right now too....but now I guess i will go and finish my Christmas Shopping...... :(

I'm working Mike or should I say I'm at work :D

I finally have electricity again-damn, we've spent a horrible last day or two. About two feet of sticky, wet snow, trees and limbs popping and coming down all day and all night, electrical transformers miles away going off all night lighting the sky up like blue lightning. Not a good way to spend a night, huddled up without electricity in a house designed to have electricity with big trees falling all around and not knowing if the next one is coming through the roof onto you. In 42 years, this was the only snowstorm I've ever been through that actually scared me and made me wonder if I was going to have a house when it was over. I've seen a lot bigger snows many times, but never one so destructive. My sister had come in from Florida for Christmas, said she wanted to see some snow, well she got some. :) We all gathered up down at my Mom's place last night to make sure she was all right, and just wound up staying down there and sat up about all night listening to the crashes. There was a 100' white oak came down and just brushed the back deck, took out the picnic table and the barbecue grill. That'll make you blink!
-
Wow..! Glad you are all safe.. ;)
-
Think of the history in that oak.....hope you plan on a few bows ;D Stay safe!
-
Man I am glad you Guys made it through all of that....We got a Snow just like that Last Year here....so much Damage due to wet Snow and Ice Build Up on Trees....thats the worst combination You could have gotten....Have a Merry Christmas Steve...and give Tina a Hug for Me....and tell Her I am glad you two are safe....Michael
-
Now thats a supply of knife handles for sure. Glad you are all ok Steve. I wish you all the best of Holidays. It is still snowing here and we have about 14 now with 3 or more to come yet......going to be a long long night.
-
Pat
Those are some really purty pics.
Steve :o :o, That was close. Glad to hear it didn't get your house.
It is crazy I'm visiting the inlaws in lower MI and we have virtually no snow, and the south is getting pounded.
-
Rick, Long Island is going to have blizzard conditions tomorrow I believe. Stay in MI where it's warm.
Our snow started melting today and froze again tonight. I don't think the presentation will happen tomorrow. I'll keep ya'll posted.
-
Damn Steve sorry to here that ya lost the grill :D Glad your all safe though.
Rick if your down below you should come visit, I'm off all week and plan on ice fishing everyday :) Got the box of rocks the other day also :)
-
Dana
I wish I could, but it's a short visit filled with family Christmas parties. I haven't been ice fishing since my time in the Soo. Or should I call it what it was. Sitting in a shanty and drinking with the occasional bite. ;D
-
Or should I call it what it was. Sitting in a shanty and drinking with the occasional bite. ;D
Rick....what other Definition for Ice Fishing is there??? You look up Ice Fishing in Merriam Webster Dictionary....and You find two Yoopers Sitting in a Box with a Heater....and cases of PBR right outside the Door...a pile of empties three feet tall...and two little Perch laying on the Ice...and if you look really close one of em looks just like Dana... >:D
-
Three more inches last night and still putting it down-joy.
-
We have sunny clear skies here but my driveway is a solid 6" of frozen hard snow. I'm gonna try to get out in a few minutes to see if it is possible. My main concern is getting to the pavement. My driveway is pretty steep; an excellent sled run but I don't want to try it in the Isuzu Trooper. ;)
Being that I missed the only two work days last week because of my back, my wife suggested(quite strongly I may add! ::) ) that I not attempt the sled run. I had to agree with reason. ;D
-
It's not gonna happen today! We will reschedule after Christmas. I'll keep everyone posted
-
Man yall got some snow,we just got a dusting.Wise decision Pat. :)
Pappy
-
Looking at Hillbilly's pics you all really got hit. We've had a couple like that the past few years in Missouri, its kinda a eerie hearing the trees snap and the tranformers blow. Stay safe.
-
Hillbilly, Glad all is well with you and yours. Man talk having a ton of bow stave's being delivered to your door...... :o ;D
Yeah, those ice storms, and heavy wet snow, can be awesome. I was hunting in Montana in 1996, and while sitting under a tree, watching for Deer, or Elk, you could hear limbs snap, and trees splitting. Sounded like gun shots. I always had a roll out spot, in case the tree I was sitting under, decided lose a limb, or split. ;) So have you told your Sister to keep her mouth shut, next year? ::)
Wayne
-
So whats the status on this Pat ???
-
Dana, A few weekends ago we were going to meet at a friends house for a cookout and to present the set to Patrick but we got lots of snow that prevented travel so we postponed it temporarily. A few day after Christmas my back went out(old malady) and I have been laid up since then. I haven't left the house since just after Christmas because of my back so we haven't made new arrangements to present the set to Patrick. I will let everyone when we reschedule.
-
Thanks for the update Pat :)
-
Pat, hate to hear about you being down in the back. I guess you probably know all about it but they tell me that ice is much better for it than a heating pad. My back has been just a little out but I can't make my self lay on ice during the winter. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. Kenneth
-
Thanks Kenneth. Ice is the trick but it is difficult when it is in the 20s outside. :o Once over the initial shock of the cold it really feel good and is the best treatment for strains. I fill a styrofoam cup with water and put it in the freezer to freeze. Remove enough of the top of the cup so some ice is exposed. Rub the ice in the strained area. The cold will numb the pain plus attract more blood to the area which promotes healing.
-
Pat
Sorry to hear about the back. NO shoveling snow. ;) Hope ya get better soon.
-
Thanks Rick...and I don't shovel snow anyway. If it is too deep, I stay home and enjoy the winter wonderland. ;D The back is getting better each day but this has been since the Sunday after Christmas. Talk about cabin fever! :o
-
Pat....How is the Back doing?? And is there been any News on when the Bow will be presented to Toms Family...just checking in....No rush...... ;D
-
Mike the back is doing better. I actually showed property yesterday(first time away from home and driving) and felt good...until last night. :o Couldn't get comfortable and today I'm stiff as heck. I need to slowly work myself back up. ::)
I talked to Alan the other day and it is up to me when I can get there. Maybe next weekend if that is OK with Alan and Patrick. I'm as eager as everyone to get these great gifts to Patrick and to get off my ass!!! ;D
-
Yeah...but don't push yourself either! Pat...I bought my Wife one of them Shiatsu Massagers that sit in your Favorite Chair...the ones that have the Infrared heated Balls that roll around and Massage you whole back and Lower Spine....man She loves it...and I have had to use it twice...and it really works well on my bad lower back...justa thought Old Man......... >:D
-
Believe me! I ain't pushing it. This has been as bad as the first time 20 years ago. Generally when it would go I'd lay up for a few days, eat my weight in ibuprofen and I'm good to go...not this time!
I'll check into the Shiatsu Massager. My first therapist had an inferred machine and one that exercised your muscles with mild shock. I could get addicted to those machine. ;D
-
Oh yeah...a good Tens Unit is hard to beat for relaxing Muscles and getting rid of Tension Headaches...and they are not that expensive now as they were 17 years ago when I bought mine for like 400 large.... :P
-
Just to keep everyone in the loop...I still have Tom's set. With the bad weather and my bad back I haven't been able to present it to Patrick. I'll keep ya'll posted with any progress.
Thanks for being patient.
-
I think that Pat is wearing it out shooting it at Home....and He is having a hard Time parting with all of it.......... >:D
Just a JOKE ....Ole Pard......... ;)
-
Mike, I would if I could. I've been laid up with a bad back and sciatica since Dec. 27. >:(
-
Pat....I know all about the Sciatica......had the Nerve Problem ever since I healed up from My Bike Wreck in 93........ :(
-
SUCKS, don't it! ::)
-
Yeah it does....especially when You are trying to go to Sleep at Night...and thats all you can feel or think about..... :(
-
Pat you need a good deep muscle massage and a good dose of demerol or a nerve block. Have you tried electro shock therapy?
-
TJ, I have had the electroshock therapy before but not this time. Was prescribed agua therapy but because of the weather, only 1 four wheel drive vehicle and my wife needing the car for work it never came about. This back problem is the result of a bulging disc near L4-L5. Back pain is gone, Sciatica has improved greatly except for a numb left shin and occasional dull pain. Had Tramidol early on for pain and to help me sleep but switched to Ibuprofen for daily use. Doing yoga stretches and long walks down and back up my driveway(.6 mi each way) and walks up into the woods. At almost 60 it takes a bit longer to get back to 100% but I've got time! ;D
Thanks for your concern. ;)
-
Pat go to the nearest Chiropractor with the DRX9000. It will take care of the bulging disc. I have two compressed discs, and it has helped me tremendously. It is ideal for bulging discs. I have to get my neck done next. But by all means, find a Chiropractor that has this machine, and you will be thankful you went. It really works!
Wayne
-
Pat, I'll come get you if you'll let me do electroshock therapy on you. I have an electric fence charger and some copper wire.....;D
-
Careful, Pat, I think he likes to play with frog legs, and that charger..... :o
Wayne
-
Pat, Maybe nugget can dress up in his newest Kilt and drop by for a massage. >:D :D
-
It's a miracle! I'm cured!! ;D
-
See, wasn't that easy? We're here for you, man. Now I went and dug out those jumper cables for nothing. ;D
-
Dang Pat I was getting ready to practice some new procedures I learned in School on your back >:D. And no they did not include a Kilt. ::)
-
Remind me to eat right and exercise.
And to keep my distance from nurses wearing kilts ;D

My friend Alan Brown came over today and brought Patrick with him today. After a bit of chatting I told Patrick I had something for him. I then showed him the set and explained how it all came about. Patrick was literally speechless! He couldn't believe the wonderful gifts and especially that it is intended as a memorial for his Dad from his friends at PA. 8)
Patrick asked me to get contact info from everyone involved so if you guys would e-mail or PM that info to me, I'll pass it on to Patrick. A beautiful day made more beautiful. Thanks to all participants. Our gifts and gesture were deeply and sincerely appreciated by Patrick! 8)
Here are a few pics from today. Sunny, temp 58deg, slight breeze.

For those of you that don't know Alan, he's the ugly one with the beard! ::)
-
Pat, that's great! I'm glad that Patrick has the set now, and I hope that he treasures and enjoys it. Patrick is a good kid, I think a lot of him, as I thought a lot of his Dad.
-
I am just glad that He is Happy...and that I had a chance to be part of this Memorial Project
-
Very Cool. The smile says it all.
-
Hey Pat,
The smile was great you can not replace that at all. I miss Tom great coffee, good guy. The camp fire will be loneley with out him.
I miss Tom!!!
Tina
-
That picture was the Best! Miss Hillbilly said it all. Tom's coffee, sitting around the campfire and watching him roll his cigarette, well,, I'll surely miss a good friend. We need another hunt at the Farm with Patrick, now.
-
Great to see Patrick finally recieve this! What a great day for it, nice pics Pat and his smile says it all. Tom will be missed at all the events and I'm glad I had a chance to be at several events with him.
Alan
-
Nice to see Patrick happy with the gear. I met Patrick at Pappy's last year. He was a really nice kid. Hopefully this will help just a little with his loss.
-
Patrick was so surprised. ;D He is a great kid. I've known Patrick since he was 8 or 9 and have watched him grow into a nice, polite young man. Hopefully he will be at NC State Shoot at Hickory and maybe the Classic. Alan told him he has a seat in his truck any time. ;)
I glad to finally get these gifts to Patrick. I thought the day would never come ::) and I'm sure many of you guys were wondering too. Things happen for a reason and today couldn't have been nicer...and Patrick knows now that he does still have friends out there. He's been through a lot over the last few years and I'm sure he's been feeling lonely lately. Well, he knows now!!! 8)
Thanks everyone. We done good. And thanks to Dana for instigation the whole project!
-
That's great Pat.He looked like he liked it. That is great and hope it brings his a little pleasure
using the stuff.Great bunch of folks come through as usual. :)
Pappy
-
Hey... I remember him from the Classic last year, what a great guy. Glad to see this memorial come full circle. I never really knew Tom, but what you guys made in tribute to him lets me know he was a great man, too. Great work everyone. :)
-
I met Tom at the Dade City (Withlachoochee River park ) Knapp in, before his passing. Didn't get to spend too much time with him, but in the short time, I did, I knew he was a good man. I never got to taste his coffee, but I will take your word for it being GOOD coffee ! I did buy some arrow bamboo from him though. Really nice guy. I am glad that his Son got the gifts, and WHAT gifts too! :o A good job by all, and especially to Dana for suggesting the Memorial in the first place. ;) It will be a gift that will be a fond reminder of his Dad, and of the type of people on this site, and something to pass on down the line. 8) Kudos to all involved, a great idea, and a great gift of rememberance. I am sure he will treasure those gifts for the rest of his life. As Pat said, Y'all done good! 8)
Wayne
-
Man wish I could have been there but hopefully Patrick will make it the the Classic and hopefully I make it.
I only met Tom at the Classic last year but he took a liking to me for some odd reason and I liked him from the get go :)
I'm glad we all came together for this project and Patricks smile says it all eh :)
Pat thanks for co-ordinating the project and thanks to everyone that participated and/or cheered from the sidelines.
-
Dana, Maybe you ought to try and set aside an archery hunt at Chris' sometime in the future?
-
That would be awesome eddie but unfortunately money is always an issue with me, just barely getting by these days :(
Not even sure if I will make the Classic this year :'( would help if I could find someone wanting to ride down with me and share expenses :)
-
Dana- if you can get to Chicago- you can ride with me for free.
-
I usually go through Chicago, when ya leaving and when you coming home?
Time isn't an issue as I have lots of vacation :)
-
I have written an article about the TomB Memorial Bow Set and Ed Ingold has accepted it for publication in PA. After going through all the pics I have I realized I do not have a good, high resolution Pic of Tom. ::) I have a few good pics of Tom but I need a pic that is high resolution for the magazine. Anyone out there have a high res pic of Tom I can use in the article? Please check your backlog of pics and see what you have.
Thanks
ps. Please e-mail any high res pics of Tom to marciaandpat@citcom.net
-
Pat, I may have something-let me look around and see.
-
Thanks Steve. I'm embarrassed I don't have one. :-[
-
Hey Pat is Patrick coming to Pappy's ? I sure hope so I would love to break some rock with him and see the bow and accessories in person :)
-
Probably not Dana.
-
Probably not Dana.
:(
-
Steve, don't you have some when we all got together at Cade's?
-
Steve was gonna check to see what he had!
