for my b-day my better half signed me up for a John Strunk bow class. i told John i wanted to try and get some pointers on building sapling bows. i picked a 1" diam. oceanspray. i also built a bow from vinemaple but thats for another time. the oceanspray ended up 65" long,64"ntn,43#@ 25". i'm very pleased w/the performance of this seamingly small stick.
most excellent class w/John Strunk great teacher. Thank You John.

Very nice bow, I don't think a better bow wood exists than ocean spray, just wish it grew bigger and straighter. Steve

Beautiful bow! Simplicity rules!!! 8)

You have used a unique wood and made a great bow. Why not BOM? >:D
-
Love it, very distinctive :)
-
That made my day
-
thank for your kind words.
when john showed me what i had to choose from, i picked this one, because it was so small in dia. and unique. i figured, this would meet most of the challenges of sapling bows all rolled up into one stick.
i scapped most of the bark which left what you see now,and revealed some what i call woodpecker damage. spots.

as soon as i get a chance i will get an unbraced profile picture up. it had appr.11/2" reflex, and after shooting in it is straight.

Super cool! John Strunk is an incredible artist and an even more patient teacher. I hope to have more time to spend with him myself to learn as much as I can.
That's an awesome bow; the tiller is perfect and I know John would never let you walk away with anything less. Did you get a chance to play some golf with him? 8) That dude loves to play golf!
-
joe klink,
thank you, and no i didn't play golf. and you could tell by the way he talks about it. i was there on a sat&sun i made two bows while i was there. which i will be posting it in a couple of days. i screwed up the tiller and had to redo almost all my previous work. i just might book another class because i have some more questions. john is a good teacher.
