Title: The "Banana" Bow
Post by: Kegan on June 04, 2009, 11:08:44 am
This is a bow that's been in the works for a long time now. It's hickory, 70" with a walnut handle addition and hickory overlays, only about 1 1/2" wide with a nice dished grip and a small leather locator for the arrow. It's backed with cotton (there was a small crack that worried me) and pulls about 55-60# at 27". It shoots better than almost all of my previous bows with arrows hitting the 11 gpp and more. It' a good one, depste the little crack on the back and a little knot on the belly (thanks for all the help guys). I used a leather and wrapping patch. Haven't had an issue yet.

I'm sending it to a friend with a 30" draw, so it should be about 65#. I owed him a bow and since I've been having trouble getting bows done lately, I'm sending this one to him. He's going to finish it out. Hence the rough appearence

This bow has taught me some things: flatbows are the way to go with these whitewoods, good heat tempering really helps a bow, how to put a backing over a knot prjection (on bottom limb), and I like dished, narrow grips :)

And here's a picture of the Titebond II and cotton backing and the handle. You can see it's really yellow... and at full draw, reminded me of a banana. So whenever I was efering to it, I started calling it the banana bow. HOpefully it's next owner has a nicer name :D

Nice little bow, ...looks like your hand just wants to be on that handle, and feels comfortable

Thanks everyone :) It really is a nice bow. Veyr smooth and accurate. I hope he likes it.

Elk- this one is actually going to a guy I've owed a bow for almost a year (or two?) now! The one I have for the swap is coming along though, and should have a real nice, pretty finish ;)

Manny- yup ;D. This one is a little on the small side, but it's the pattern I've been using on any bow I have enough wood for lately. I've found the style I like (and it's now wodner- I saw it on your bows first)!
