I made an osage recurve and gave it to my wife for her birthday on Saturday!! ;D ;D It's 56" ntn and pulls 27" @ 42#, backed with prarie rattler skins, it has buff tip overlays. It's 1 1/2" wide at the fades and tapers down to 1/2 tips. It rained for the most part on Saturday so she shot it all morning on Mother's Day. She had a great time but she didn't want me to post any of her pics ::). I made her some other goodies including a stringer, forearm protector, and 5 arrows. I really had a good time making this one. Great looking bow! Really sweet detail work, and nice curves, too. My birthday is only a few months away.....;D

Obviously you have some real skill at working with the details. Great bow and bookmarked, too, for May Self Bow of the Month

Hey old buddy... old pal... my b'day's comin' up soon ;D. I'd gladly take one of those!
-
Nice bow love those snake skins!
-
Thanks OldBow. I appreciate the complement ;D
Thanks abd... ole buddy!!
Thanks smokeu. I'm looking forward to making a bow with snake skins for myself some day ;)
-
Very nice!
Are the recurves dynamic??
-
Thanks medicinewheel. I think the recurves might bend just a smidge. This was my first recurve build and I noticed a few posts that the recurves were sometimes pulling out. So I tried to get them to work a little but I feared I might go too far with the tillering and cause them to pull out and lose em. So to answer your question... They "work" but they might be a little lazy :P ;) LOL By the way... thanks again for the "tips" on your tip overlay post. I learned a lot from you 8) 8) 8) Joe H

That will keep you out of the doghouse for sure! ;D Great looking bow, prairie rattlers add a nice touch to a well tillered bow.

Gorgeous, nice work!

Beautiful bow and very nice work! I have one very similar, but a little heavier poundage. Gotta love those osage recurves! ;) :)
-
Thanks Tracy - It's also a good way to get OUT of the doghouse if your already there! :D
Thanks Tombow :)
Thanks Brownhillboy - I tried to make it 45 pounds for my wife but lost a couple pounds. I don't have a chrono but, it seems to throw an arrow about as fast as my 50 pound long bow! ;D

Beauty. Great detail work.

The heart bead detail is a Great touch !!! The tips are beautifully crafted, and overall the bow is a 10 out of 10 !! Great job on a handcrafted gift - the best kind !!!
-
Thanks barebo!!! ;D The osage beads are made out of the scraps from my first bow and the catlinite beads are from scraps too. As I was working with the bigger pieces of catlinite a piece busted out and it took on the shape of a heart so I worked with it :D and it seemed fitting to put it where it lives now. My wife is a great person and definitely deserves more, but it's the best I could do... 10 outa 10.... geeesh!!! that's a pretty high complement indeed! :o Thanks again barebo!
Funny enough... we both had a great time shooting her new bow today. We made a game of shooting a paper plate target with crayon rings complements of the kids. She whooped my butt. :P It's by far the funnest bow I've ever shot! ;) Joe H
