what kind of wood works best for bows/arrows

There's no set answer to that one, at least the bow part. People have been arguing over this since the bow was invented. What kind of bows? Where will you be using them? Some of the better bow woods would be osage, yew, mulberry, hickory, ironwood, ipe, or any of a number of other ones. Some woods are better for some designs or climates. It's hard to beat osage as an all-around wood. But that's just my opinion. Part of the enjoyment of this obsession is experimenting with different woods and designs. As for arrows, that one's easy. Cane. Period. :)

for arrows any i can keep straight with minimall work and will shoot well from my bow

ask a yank and they will tell you yew wood ask a southern boy and it is osage. i use osage cause it is as thick as dog ticks down here, and last 4 ever. i meet a man at a shoot that was shooting a 65 year old osage bow.
