tenn chert, dover, normanskill, obsidian, and the chocalate looking stuff i have no idea what it is but it knaps like a dream. any ideas? i kept waiting for the gunther to break but it didnt.

Dont know what that stuff is, but thems is awesome! I cant get anything that thin even with copper....Brian

thanks guys, ill check out both. this was by far my favorite knapping material ive ever worked. im gonna keep wackin at that yella tenn chert for now till i figure it out.

That chocolate stone looks like Rainey Buttes from North Dakota. I think it's actually a petrified wood, but it tends to be quite heavy because the water where the trees were preserved were high in iron and the iron leached into the wood. I've worked it before and it chips really, really nice.
