whats the best way to store feathers to keep mites from them, I here moth balls work but the smell is to bad
-
I usually seal them up in those big ziplock bags. You can keep them in the freezer without hurting them.
-
I have used the moth balls with good effect, havent noticed the odor after using the feathers but would not use for hunting with out airing out for a good while.
-
On the bird! Preferably while its still alive!!! ;D
-
I use a rubber maid box and throw in a few mothballs as well..
-
The moth balls that come in those small packs are the one's I use.....not the old fashioned round and slimy mothballs. You can buy a box of several packs (about 20?) for a few bucks at wally world.

I keep mine in a frig!

I know from past experience KEEP THEM IN THEE FREEZER for about two weeks then use what you need after two weeks you kill most mites that the bird has I know this because I lost all of my feather to mites
-
I've kept mine up to 5 years in the freezer.
-
I put them in ammo boxes and fog it each time I add some with Perminom.Never had a problem and they don't smell. :) The only problem I have now is I am running out of ammo boxes. ;) ;D

I just pitch mine in a cardboard box with a few moth balls in it. I add a few balls once in a while and have never had any problems.
