Hi all,
finally I managed to get the laburnum bow finished.
It's 64"ntn and draws 53#@28"
I spliced two billets of home-garden grown laburnum, the handle riser is cherry and the bow is backed with watersnake skin.
After tillering and some shooting, the reflex is mostly gone.

After having worked with that wood, I think that its physical qualities are as good as osage. It sure looks better ;)
For me, Laburnum is probably the best locally growing bowwood.
It seems a bit harder than osage but is similar workable. Probably as "brittle".

Looks good.. I like those tips..

Very nice work! - have a full length stave waiting in the workshop, too!
Is yours sapwood on or just heartwood??
F.

Hallo Frank,
it's only heartwood.
The sapwood felt pretty soft and somehow "spongy" so I decided to remove it. However, the colour contrast would certainly look great.

Very nice bow.
It is indeed a pretty wood. I have a set of Laburnum billets that Glenn Doane gave me a few years ago. Still haven't done anything with them though
-
Looks a lot like black locust. Nice bow! :)
-
a beauty... nice details ... love it !!!
radon you seem quite productive lately ;-)
-
Very Nice Bow!!!

Looks a lot like black locust. ...
In real it looks different from BL and the texture is different, too. The wood probably can compete with osage in tension and compression.
Radon, it's been used for ELBs with sapwood on, so i guess I'll go for that...
-
ps: Radon, what was the diameter of your stem??
-
VERY nice bow there , well done
hope to see it in BOM
Chris ;)

That's a beauty of a bow! 8) The watersnake skins look great. Joe H

Frank: the diameter of the stem was about 12cm / 5".
Comix: It seems, that I either don't build bows for quite a while and when I start again, I make two or three in a row.

Great looking bow. The detail work on the tips and the grip are great. Those skins really set it off. Nice work.

Gotta agree with everyone else, beautiful bow :)

Dido. Great looking bow and nice tips.

That is really nice! Well done. Jawge

Excellent job on that bow Radon,
That turned out great and I would defiantly agree that laburnum is a great bow wood. Just need to be carefull of the toxic dust. It has some beautiful grain and is very strong. Looks like you followed the back very carefully and the character bumps make for an awesome looking bow. Congratulations on your success. Keenan

Very nice looking bow! I also like the tips and the over all sleek look...nice work!

So, here's the matching knive:
I Had a small pieve of snakeskin left, wich braught me to the idea to use it with a knivesheath. The knive is made from the same stuff than the bow, laburnum und buffalohorn. The spacers are nicklesilver.
The Blade is handforged by Gunnar Bergström from Sweden.
