I was wondering if spar urethane would be a good finish for rawhide ,any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks Dave.

I don't see why not....I use mostly minwax polyurethane, but spar should work as well.

ihave just sinewed a bow, shouald i add tru oil then polyuratane as a sealer?

I have used TBIII over sinew, rawhide and snake skins to help prevent moisture problems with these hygroscopic materials. I have also just used TruOil or a combo of both for this.

I do about the same as Pat. 4 or5 coats ofTru oil then a last coat of satin Polly if I want to dull the finish.Never tried the tb3 but I may the next one, sounds good to me. :)

Dave: I like wiped on finishes so my first two coats are Helmsman Spar Urethane wiped on, not sprayed. I use a 400-600 sandpaper between coats. I then finish with multiple coats of Wipe on poly which leaves a smoother finish and requires minimal or no sanding between coats.

Thanks for the information guys it is appreciated,Dave

I've only did one rawhide backing. But I dyed it with Feibings leather dye then finished it with tru-oil applied with my finger.
