Title: IDing stone
Post by: tweeds on February 10, 2009, 10:18:09 pm
Is there a book out that is good for IDing stone.  Kind of like the books you can get for IDing trees, brids,ect....  I just don't know what the stone looks like that works good for knapping.  Would be nice to have a book to see what the outer crust on some of these stones looks like so I don't go out busting rocks apart to see the inside of them.  Also is there a list of stones good for knapping on the site?

Not really sure if there's a book that helps ID knappable stone. I've never seen one.  I can ID most of my stone just because I've been working stone for so long that I can tell what type it is.  you get that with experience and more experienced knappers can ID lots of different stone just by looking at it.
