Title: Hard Maple Stave

After seeing the great job Jesse S did on his hard maple bow I figured I had to have one. I,ve never worked with maple - do you use the first ring under the bark as you do in other white woods??  I have access to a few pieces of maple that are crying to be made into selfbows - Matt

yup, just peel the bark and cambium and there is your first ring!  have at it- Ryan

Thanks Ryan - I,ve got  three 10" logs 8' long and one log 30" by 12' long - enough to keep me busy for a while - Matt

Maple is good bow wood Matt. It under rated as far as I'm conserned, I like it much better than hickory.
