Post by: dragonman on December 19, 2008, 05:31:56 pm
I've figured it out finally, withe help of photorazor, heres the pics of my latest bows (hopefully)

bow1, (largest recurves)-hickory backed with bamboo, 66"  55#  2 1/2" of reflex
bow2 (the other recurve) as above    66" 58# 1" of reflex
bow3-straight bow ipe backed with bamboo   66"  62#   1" of reflex,   this ones the fastest, and has arrow shelf

a few more pics, sorry about the poor quality, next ones will be better, interestingly, the 55# bow, is faster and nicer to shoot than the 58# bow due to the bigger recurves I guess,

You've got some gorgeous bows there. If you would like to enter any in Primitive Archer's Bow of the Month program, identify the bow(s) clearly, and show unbraced, braced and full draw views for the bow. Always good, too, to include closeups of the handle and tip.

Dragonman,
Very nice bows. I think you may be the first Welshman to post bow here.
I like the recurves but it is interesting that the straight Ipe/Boo bow is the fastest.
Would be good to see your bows in person one of these days.

very nice bows, i especially like the layering in the handle, something i have not committed to yet, but desperately want to.  it alwyas ups the aesthetics of a bow.  nice curves too, something else for me to try.  thanks for sharing!

I'm normally partial to longbows/flatbows but those recurves look pretty sweet.

If anyone is interested, these recurves wheren't put in by steaming, but by sawing the top 13"-14" of the limbs in half along their width, and gluing in a very thin slice of wood and clamping into shape in a form. Sounds more difficult than it is .  This type of recurve pulls out much less, than steaming and doesn't take much longer to make.

Do you have any close up pics of the glued in piece? I might want to try it sometime
