Will be interesting to see how it turns out piper, I haven't tried a board yet.

i got a big board of osage, it was 4x8x1 about, i cut two 1.7's outta it, but the one i made into a bow cracked in 3 places, so dont take any advise from me :-\ ;) it was also heavily recurved, and had some natural reflex. -jimmy

Islandpiper,  Thats a nice looking osage board.  I'm a novice but I think there are some bows in that board.  I build mostly bamboo backed bows and really love osage boards.  I like to cut my boards/staves to the length I want the bow if the wood is fairly clean.  I just don't like the extra step of splicing if I can help it.   Don

My wife says I need more exercise.   Carrying that big honkin' Osage plank was pretty good exercise I think.   I may have to go out more often and buy more wood.   Try that on your wives, guys, and see how it goes over.  heh heh heh

Piper,  I'd cut the hickory  3/16"  or an 1/8". Just de-grease the Osage before you glue it. Some use soap, acetone, lacquer thinner. I use oven cleaner or bug and tar remover for cars.
