backing caused the limbs to set?

Hi
i am working on a red oak board bow, and following advice here I backed it with a .10 thick hickory backing. before backing it there was no set in the limbs, after backing it with the hickory i noticed it had taken 1/2 inch of set. Any ideas why? thanks for the help

Got me stumped!! Unless you didn't have it clamped up flat....most times when I glue on a Bamboo or Hickory Backing....I always put some reflex into it wile I am clamping it up.... just to help out....just in case you get some set while Tillering
