Snapple bottle and Q's
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:49:33 am »
I was wondering if you guys would know what kind of rock I could potentially find and use in the Western New York area.I tried my first knapping project yesterday on the bottom of a Snapple bottle.I had mixed results-I have 2 positives -I didn't hurt myself and I don't need to put meat in the freezer.
I also heard of a place I could go and potentially find some old arrowheads.probably would be a good place to find material too.
I was also wondering what the best video and book yous think is out there on this subject.
   Thanks in advance
Gene

western new york has onandaga chert its a tough one for beginners but its worth the effort to find it. check out utube for vids. my favorite is by "flintknapping tips". if your anywhere near letchworth there is an a knap in there every year. itll do you good to work with others. you'll learn more in a weekend there than by reading books. peace
