Well, it wasn't meant to be for me to get a deer this weekend I guess.

I'm pretty sure this was the same groundhog I missed last year in my foodplot. He was gorging himself Friday afternoon on whiteoak acorns I was hunting over near my foodplot.

I soaked him in water for about 36 hours before putting him in the freezer. We'll give him a try at the club, Grant can work miracles!  ;D

woodchuck is better than venison in my book. i cook em over coals, belly up. when the juices in the belly disapate its done. awesome meat. all the vegetables he stole are in his meat, enjoy. oh yeah save the hide for a bow string. chuck hide makes awesome bow string material.peace

My Daddy always boiled them for a while. Then baked them with butter, onions, potato's, carrots and LOTS of black pepper. I love 'em that way.
 Did I mention LOTS of black pepper?

Greg nice shot on a fine hog.  I've seen one at one of the areas I hunt but he hasn't given a shot yet.

Yeah Kenneth, he just fell over and quivered a little.

Shannon, that sounds like a good way to cook them...I'm sure if Grant is involved with the cooking that pepper of some sort will be in the recipe.

Thanks Mark and Jimmy, it was about a 10 yard shot directly behind my tree...I had to cant my bow in the opposite direction then normal to avoid my lower limb hitting my stand. ;)

Nice whistlepig. They're really good eating, especially when they're fattened up on white oak acorns. I killed one with a bow last year, and was surprised how quickly a stone point therough the chest put him down-he just about dropped in his tracks. They're tough critters, I've had several over the years get back in their holes after good shots with a gun.
