Another Yew sneak peek

Well, if Keenan is going to start posting sneak previews, then so am  I!

Here is a bow I finished this morning.  It’s made from 2 billets that I harvested from a buddies property in the Cascades. 66” ntn, 60# @ 27”. I’ll provide braced and full-draw pictures when I’m satisfied the finish is fully cured. But for now, enjoy…

Very nice Gordon. I've grown to appreciate yew with just the few bows I've built with it. Did you use a Z splice at the handle?  I have a few sets of billets that need some attention.  ;D

Pat, I did use a Z-splice. Thank you adb, I much enjoyed looking at your yew bow also.

 :o :o :o  ooohhh Thats sweet!  Sneak peak heck,  thats just down right teasing ;D  Looks like another incredible master piece Gordon. Can't wait to see more details of her ;)
  Also how are the those stats I gave you in comparison to what you have there. Looks like you might have gone a touch narrower and thicker profile?  And six inches longer I'm sure would change dimension a fair amount.
  I knew as quiet as you had been that you had to have something good up your sleeve ;)

This was the first yew selfbow that I've attempted so I didn't quite know what to expect. The width is 1 1/4" at the fades tapering evenly to 1/2" at the tips. It's 7/8" deep at the fades tapering to 1/2" at the tips. I've always been a little envious of those folks with yew longbows and now I finally have one for my own that I can take to shoots. I have to admit that while I'm still a vine maple aficionado, yew makes a pretty darn nice selfbow.

 Thanks Gordon, I thought it looked a Little more ELB style. Sure looks like it would send an arrow sailing. I know why you did that ::) Your going to make sure that you take home the long distance prize at the gathering this next spring ;)

 ;D Now thats a serious challenge if I ever heard one ;D  Guess I'm going to have to rally the east side troops and start in on the flight bow specs ::)
  But, maby we will get lucky and all your Valley bows will still be water logged and we will win with the kid bows. :o

Well maybe. But don't forget a certain pair of fire cured yew billets that somehow ended up in my possession. This bow is only practice for the real deal. If you east-siders want to line up your kid's bows next to what comes of those billets that's fine by me! >:D

Ron, that's a reindeer pelt in the picture - not one that I killed though. ;D
