hickory-backed jatoba ELB

my neighbor Burkhard is registered on PA, but i don't think he ever posted; he says his english is not so good! i'm sure he'll chime in...

i glued up a stave of hickory-backed jatoba (brazilian cherry) for him that he turned into a fine longbow at my workshop during the summer.
the bow turned out great, a sweet shooter of shortly 60#@28" (weight has not been checked after shooting the bow in)
the stave was glued inducing 1/2" of reflex and the bow has less than an inch of set right after unbracing.
we went for some 3-D shooting today (he beat me) and there we took the pics!

so here is Burkhard and his first bow!

That's a really good looking bow - I bet he is proud of it. How long is it?

when he made the bow he ran out of time to get the bow ready for a tournement he wanted to shoot, so i helped him out making bloodwood overlays and a handle lace for the bow.
the handle has been build up with cork, too.

  The bow looks great, I have about given up on jatoba, I would say 80% of my jatoba bows have chrysaled. I really like the wood up until it hits it's limit then no warning at all and the belly is crushed. Steve

I'm in Los Angeles but I forwarded this fine bow as a bookmark for Oct Laminate BOM. Quite the bow.
