How's my tiller so far?

Greetings all,
this would be my second attempt, first one is not for showing here 

It is 71 ntn, black wallnut backed maple, handle is mahagony + stripes of maple and nock overlays also. I am aiming for at least 50# max 60# witch I should be able to accomplish since it is pulling 50 allready. I havent low braced it yet. Due to my inexpirience I woud appricieate some response before I do.

So it is not braced yet? You are on the long string? Looks like too much bending happening mid limb. Get near handle wood moving. I'd get make sure the bending is starting at the end of the fades. Also need more bending  after mid limb. Jawge

She broke when I tried to low brace her.
She has had a little crack on the back.






The reason for this breakage IMHO is in poor selection of backing stripe used.



This crack revealed it self only after sanding the allready glued stripe.
Well, back to the drawing board....

If it was me, I'd switch the wood combos. Maple backed walnut would be a better choice, IMO. Also, I think you might have just rushed it to low brace. If you were only at 12" of tiller with the long string, then you pushed too hard, too soon. It's good to get to the short string asap, but the bow needs to be bending a bit more.

Thanks to all, I will employ these advices on my next attempt. Since I am out of maple for now (and spend all my money on black walnut ) I will try simple wallnut flatbow. It should work, the stave is bias ringed and has little or no knots and pins....

How about just using a red oak board - straght grained? No glued on handles for your first. Info on my site. Jawge
