Thanks Pete, you're point looks great too! I call that waxy stuff rhyolite but I think James said it's actually silicified shale or something like that...anyawy it's from central NC. I've never found any of it myself. I've just picked up a few pieces mostly at Schiele when James was spalling a big boulder a couple years ago. Barry Mcall also gave me a few pieces of it. I really like the white quartz too but finding it without too many fractures is the problem. I'm using hamerstones and antler on these. I'm also starting to use dogwood billets and I'm going to try it for pressure flaking too. Have you found any knappable stone near you?
