I'm guessing it was Black, from looking at the heartwood color on the belly. Killer bow, thanks for posting.

10-4 Dan. That does make sense for the primitive's to have used the sap wood - lot less work.
When you come upon a track or trail you do not know, follow it to the point of knowing.
