Jacob's first bow (new pic's)

When I was at the hunters helping kids event, I had a young man by the name of Jacob ask me if he won the bow that I was giving away at the event, if I would build him one his size and I told him sure I would. Well you should have seen his face  :'(when he didn't win. Long story short I melted like candy on the dashboard in August. Well I got his mother's # and I'm meeting with them tomorrow to give him his bow that's the right size for him..  It is hickory backed,Ipe center core,Osage belly with a purple heart,Ipe and Osage handle the limb tip overlays are also Hickory,Ipe and Osage. It is 44" 20#@20"  1" wide at fades tapering to 3/8" nock's.. More deflex than reflex. I hope he enjoys the bow as much as I enjoyed building it for him.. Here are the pic's.

Oops I forgot to mention I did make him 3 bamboo arrows to go with it..

Nice Job David!, I know making them fancy kids bows can be harder than the big ones since everything is so small, including the tolerances... And a tri-lam as well...

im quickly finding that out Rich, i just started roughing out a hickory selfbow for my son, everything is so SMALL!

Good on ya David! yup kids make me melt too ::) im sure he's gonna love it!

Thank's guy's.. Rick you are right It takes just as much if not a little more work to build a little one like this.. I went as far as tapering the center core. But it taught me alot about how everything act's as it gets smaller ;D.. It's a completely different animal when you get this small..lol. But fun none the less..

Good for you. The bow looks so substantial, he'll be giving it to his son someday.  Gotcha bookmarked for August Laminate Bows of the Month, too.

Just got back from meeting with Jacob and his mom she was telling me that he couldn't sleep last night because tomorrow was going to be just like Christmas..He was very nervous and shy but got over it as soon as he shot his first arrow.. Jacob and his mother spent last night baking cookies and putting up peach perserves for me. :o.. They are very kind people and was a pleasure to have met them. His mother also stated that ever since they went to the event that it has renewed there faith in humanity.  Here is a pic or two of him and his bow.
