little rainy afternoon..napping or knapping
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:08:54 pm »
well i opted to knap instead of nap and made a sweet little knife from Texas chert and deer antler  and real nice hunting point from dacite   ....a little question about that...is it pronounced- (day-site)  or (dah-site)  or is it tomayto or tomahto.   anyways here they are   and as always all done with abo tools.  these are done with a single elk antler billet and 2 deer antler flakers.

Those are real nice.  You can go ahead and box the up and send them to me.  It will give me something to look at while I beat myself in the head with an ishi stick. :o

Ryan:  You're an inspiration.  :o I worked on one last night (after a full day of home remodeling) and got it to legal dimensions, but it's still a little fat.  I hope I can get'm thin like yours.  Those are so sweet, plus at the speed I work, that's about a year's worth.

Ryan: I'm not sure about the pronunciation of dacite - just call like ya see it, I've heard it called both ways but it's all the same stuff, heheh :). Your doing some fine work there, rain out's aren't all bad I reckon. Fine job on that TX stuff with all abo tools, looks like you thinned it out nicely..

thanks for the compliments guys, i am getting a little better with each one. i have a box of spalls  that i used to think were garbage but i kept them anyway incase i ever got to a point where i could tackle them.  Now i am using that box of "junk" and making better points than ever.  i cant wait to use my good stuff again.- Ryan

i did the same . i went through my debitage and just started nocking points out from stuff i thought was unusable. if its a challenging piece of stone you learn a lot more from it than a simple flake. awesome work peace
