Everybody needs a good laugh
« on: July 23, 2008, 12:08:51 am »
I figured everyone could use a good laugh.  Here are a few points that I made.  I am having a problem with the grey flint.  I can't run the thinning flakes and the points come out rounded.  Most of the black stuff looks like obsidian, but I am not sure.  So crack one a cold one and enjoy the show.

Maybe one day I will come up with some that look good enough to put on a necklace.

Atleast I have lots of material to practice with.  I went in the woods behind the neighbors and came back with 12 pounds og glass bottle and jug bottoms.  I'm going back later for the TV screens and an old oval wash tub that will soon be a forge.  Hopefully between that and the 65 pounds of rock I have got, I will have a few points good enough to hunt with in 2009.

I agree with Pat... brother, crawl before you walk.. you are already up on one leg great job! All you need is a hand pad an ishi stick and an abrading stone and those flakes will be coming off nice and long for you... Hawk a/ho

Pat, I was crawling.  Where do you think the wine bottles came from?  ;D  Just kidding, mine comes from quart jars.
Hawkbow, I have a toolbox full of different flakers and boppersand crap smackers.  I like the ishi stick the best.  I am just glad I have the patience to go with all of it.

The glass is alot easier to work with than the flint.  It is also easier to break, usually when there is only a few flakes left to take.  I may be different in the way I do it.  Usually, I will have a couple going at one time, so I can switch back and forth.  It helps keep me from getting in too big of a hurry.  I had four of the black points going at one time.
