New lam bow. second time was better by far
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:24:12 pm »
I finished up my second Lam bow. went a lot smoother this time. shoots really great and smooth, glue joints are much much better, i am more pleased with this one by far.
Ipe back, oak core, and osage belly.  the riser is Spalted Maple. Tips are Osage
  62"  and 54# @ 27"
my Father saw it and ofcourse liked it so i offered it to him. I am not really into shooting these bows, they are fun to make and look nice, but i take a twisted stick over them any day.
now that i have a pretty good idea on how to make them i will do a little more generic lam combo. next i think it will be boo back.   thanks for peeking- Ryan

Very nice! I'm glad the crooked sticks have our heart though, you might give them up for these sweet looking lam bows of yours ;D.

That's a sweet lookin bow Ryan.  I especially like your handle and leather wrap. The leather work reminds me of a tuxedo vest for some reason ???
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Wow, very nice. Ipe backing? Hmmm... never thought of that, but why not? Seems to have worked fine for you. Certainly an interesting lam combination, with oak core and ipe back.

Three bows this month and I can't decide which I like best - I like them all.  Congrats on this one, though. Surely a worthy candidate for July Laminate Bow of the Month.

thanks guys
Kegan- these are fun to make, but i cannot imagine i will ever enjoy these more than my stick bows. i dont even shoot them..lol they bore me after a few shots, too crisp and clean... ;D

adb3112-  combo is a bit weird, i just like playing around and thinking outside the box, i didnt have any hickory for a core so oak worked just fine. i like a darker colored back so thats why i used the ipe  and osage is the best bely lam material so...i use what i got i suppose.  next will probably be boo backed
