Cascara Longflatbow

Thanks to everyone for all the good info on this site. This is my first bow and I couldn't have done it alone. I had a hard time trying to decide what stave to start with out of all the wood I cut this last winter (vine maple, black locust, yew and cascara). This bow is 70" ntn 1 1/2" wide for most of the limbs down to 1/2" at the tips. After being shot in it pulls 67# at 27" with about 3/4" set. It's offset (bottom limb shorter).The tip overlays are oceanspray (about the hardest wood I know of that grows around here) and the handle wrap is vet wrap (just temperary till I get a good piece of leather). I'm not to sure about the tiller but it shoots hard and acurate so I'm happy. I just started a new prodject (locust recurve) I think I'm hooked.

I just brought home a couple cascara staves and was hoping to give them a try..   I've also been trying to think up what kind of wood I could/should use for tip overlays on a Douglas maple bow that I'm testing out.  Oceanspray!  Love it and never thought about it.  Oceanspray overlays it is.

Skykomish... ahhhhh.  Once my old haunt growing up, first girlfriend in Monroe, practically lived on the river flyfishing for steelies and tromped all around the sultan basin.. bet it looks different these days... sigh.

I'm in Ellensburg now - was just up hiking on the PCT at Stevens this past weekend with my wife for our anniversary.

But back to your bow, thats a beauty!!!

Looks like you did a great job, especially if that's your first bow. The tiller looks good to me, maybe just a bit too much positive tiller, but the proof is in the shooting. Nice detail work on the tips, too.

I know Sultan! Cruise through there most every year on my way to the San Juans Islands via the Washington State Ferry Terminal at Anacortes.

Nice job.  The string follow seems fairly well balanced so if it shoots good I'd say you got the right tiller for that project.
