gotta ask ya, what was the diameter of the dead branch. my next door neighbor has a great looking BL with a fairly thin dead branch i could manage to acquire.

It was about 4.5" at the base and about 3" at the thin end.  After removing sapwood it was a bit smaller.  I split it in two and chose the side w/o the big knots.
