Harvesting Crabapple

Hello folks,I need some advice on selecting and harvesating crabapple,there is a lot of it growing here and any pointers would be helpful to me.

Most of the crab apple around here grows in a spiral so I can't find any suitable for bows. Study the bark before cutting to be sure it isn't growing in a spiral also. Probably anything over 2" in diameter will make a bow. Make the log as long as you can. I'd try for 68" or so to start with.     Pat

A lot of the Crab Apple here AK has woodpecker or sapsucker holes in it. I found those area's are not bow worthy. I can tell you this when you find a good chunk it will make a great bow, so it is definitely wort the effort.
