Boo/Hickory ELB
« on: June 08, 2008, 11:41:56 pm »
I don't get a lot of time to be on the computer what with work and life and all. This is definitely my favorite place to visit and read through as many threads as I can, though.

I finished this bow last week and have managed to get a few hundred shots into it since. It's a hickory board backed with laminated boo.

It took quite a bit of set, as you can see, but I'm happy with it since it's my first successful longbow and it shoots great with very consistant groups. I used purpleheart for the nocks and an inlaid shelf/striker/finger groove. Sorry about the poor quality pics. It was so sunny that day that I couldn't see the image on the camera's screen, so I was shooting blind and my pic skills are pretty lame as it is. I held the bow while my son took the full-draw pic.

It's 72" o/a and 70 1/2" nock to nock. It came in right around 75# at 30" and is braced to 6".

Thanks for looking,

Bruce

I'd say your bow came out very nice. Not that much set either, especially for 75#@30".  A simple design with nice bling bling!  ;D  The tips and arrow pass are quite nice. 8)
I have made bows with hickory backed lam boo but never the way you laid it up. Maybe I made mine wrong! ::)     Pat

Let me see if I got this right,... you baked it with bamboo floring ?

I've being thinking to do this for a while but I was never sure if it would work.

good job regardless on that bow, ..but you might wanna think to round the corners a bit

Good looking bow, but like Manny said, it's a bit square. I believe I'd do some serious rounding on those edges. Looks like you nailed the tiller, nice bend on it.

I like the tips and the tiller looks right on. The string follow doesn't look bad for a bow of that weight.

Thank you for your comments, gents.

And thanks, Nomadic Pirate and Hillbilly for the advice. I'll make sure to do that from now on.

Great looking bow. I love the inlayed arrow rest.  Justin
