and so, does the jello have the shrinking properties that is supposed to be so good with sinew?
Knox is just a more purified Hide Glue...it will shrink up as the Sinew Shrinks up...the two work in unison...try it..you'll like it!!!

One of the big differences between good hide glue and gelatin is that gelatin does not have a strength rating or "grade".  Good hide glue will be predictable.  Good hide glue will also enable you to choose the "open" time by choosing a certain grade of hide glue.

If you use Knox then you're rolling the dice.  It could lead to disappointment.  Personally, I don't use it.

I was wanting to use the knox hide glue for gluing fletch wrapping down on arrows and other small projects where I need to glue sinew down.

TJ, I chew the sinew strands first before wrapping on fletching. The saliva and sinew make its own glue and no other glue is needed. A good sealing after it dries well and you are good to go. I use the pine pitch varnish I make to seal my primitive arrows and the sinew wrappings. Super glue or TB glue works will to seal the wraps also.       Pat
