what IS handshock?

is this the same thing as string slap?

from reading tim baker in TBB, i think that handshock is the result of stored energy which is not expended in the release of an arrow.  Is this right?  because i don't seem to experience this in any of my bows, so i thought maybe it must be string slap...but that's more a matter of brace height. isn't it?
