Thanks guys. Yup 42 #s will still fling 'em. Had to build a new set of arrows for it though. Just finished them up. got a set that matched weight right around 460 grns. Should fly great out of her. I was shooting 650 and heaver spine arrows that were for my other bow. Think this new set will fly soon. Gotta wait for the finish to completely harden.

TC - that is true oil a gun stock finish I picked up at local wood working shop. lots of guys use it on their bows. Actually I followed gordon's build along and applied 10-12 coats... took waaaayyyy too long but looks nice.
I might actually dull it down with some steel wool for hunting. but for now I'm gonna leave it shiny.

Wade, A quick spray of satin poly will take the shine off. I use it on all my hunting bows.     Pat

That's an incredible bow you got out of that stave Wade!! Great job, tiller looks right on and real nice job on the skins, handle and finish and 42# will work great for deer, no problem. I saw this stave when Wade first started on it and I gotta admit that I probably wouldn't have even tried to get a bow out of it, it was a very challenging piece of wood.

Nice job on a challenging project.  I'd regard 42# @ 29" on a 61" bow as being equal in cast to about 52# @ 28" on a 67" with typical string follow.  Only a chrono will say for sure, but I never sacrifice good tiller and balance for draw weight.  You just rob Peter to pay Paul as I see it in that scenario.  Congradulations.
