A friend of mine was having his 50th birthday, and I wanted to give him an Obsidian blade. I wasn't sure if I could get anything long enough out of the smaller obsidian nodules that I had left. I experimented with some nodules, seeing if I could retain as much length as posiible and still get a useable blade. In a couple evenings, after work, I roughed out these 5 blades, between 4 - 6 inches. I did have 3 failures, that just didn't work out. I picked one of the better ones, put final touches on it, and hafted it to a small mule deer shed antler. I used the same pine pitch, sinew, and hide glue that I use on my arrows. Seemed to work out pretty good. Here a couple photos.
