Tite Bond 3 for spliced handles?

I was wondering if anyone has used Tite Bond 3 for a handle splice?

My gut says to break down and buy some more urac.

TBIII will work fine for handle splices. Make the gluing surfaces as smooth as possible.      Pat

As long as the gluing surfaces are matched well TBIII works great, if not Urac has better gap filling qualities. You can save a little money getting it straight from Nelson Paint. http:// www .nelsonpaint .com/shop.html

also  Weldwood Plastic Resin, a urea glue, is cheap and available locally. It is a powder that you mix with water and when cured looks and acts like Urac. A 1# bucket of it cost about $5 (at least when I bought it a few years ago) and doesn't have a shelf life if kept sealed.     Pat

Yep titebond 3 works good. Done a couple handle splices with no problems.

Would it work on a very simple splice: where I cut each peace at an angle (/) and then matte the two together? Glue surface area would be 4".  Or am I pushing my luck with that?

It would most likely hold up......but just go with the "W" Splice...it is simple enough and there is a good build a long on here for you to look at too.......

A "Z" splice is even easier than a "W" splice just 3 cuts.  It is not worth putting the effort to build a bow with a simple splice in the handle.  It can be done but I would want more assurance that it would hold together.   Pat

I think straight kerfs for wooden frames for  airplanes is like 14 : 1 Really a long kerf. Dont think it would work on a bow unless you went way past the handle. When they do that to an air frame they dont cut it down and taper it. Probably wouldn't work on a bow handle area.

I did one bow with tite bond iii on a splice.It holds real nice.
