Me and BJ
« on: February 10, 2025, 03:52:14 pm »
Me and BJ are building a flight bow together. I gave up on the high crown that Willie and I was building to the computer design because of the crown. So BJ and I are going old school on it. We decided to try something different we’ve never done. We are trying to match the belly to the crown on the back. Making the back and belly crowns as close as possible. 62” long 2-3/4” wide at the fades 8”handle.
Well I'll say!!  Osage is king!!

We are making pretty good progress. We have been tag team working on this one. It’s the hardest piece of Osage I have ever scraped.

We have it to low brace now, but the ladies want to get something to eat now and I didn’t get any pictures on the tree. Think we are going to stay another day yet and hopefully finish this one up tomorrow

So are you making the belly concave for an even limb thickness (hollow limb) or convex to match the back?
Seems like common sense isn't very common any more...

The opposite of hollow limb Bob . I think thats convex if I remember my $20 words correctly.

We’re hoping to have three growth rings on peak of belly

It’s an experiment Arvin wants to test.

Looking forward to the results...I just don't see how it could be better than a flat belly...

It might not be Bob. But neither of us have ever tried it so we thought it might be a good experiment.

Arvin has a theory that a bow with Three growth rings might be best. One for tension, one for core and one for compression. With two early wood rings for shear.

It kinda makes sense to me so we figured we would give it a go.

It’s a light rain here again this morning. Probably not going to be able to shoot any holes in the sky again today. Hopefully we can finish tillering this bow though
