tiller check - ash backed sage r/d
« on: November 14, 2024, 05:01:46 pm »
I'm in year 22 of bowyering but am a little rusty on r/d's.  Osage backed osage.  Two spliced short pieces taken out of rough split timber piece with circular saw.  Light density sage.  63" ntn, 1&3/8"wide.  Tips about even with back at grip unbraced.  Pulling a little over 50# here at 24".     More work on outer limbs?

Hmm from the angle in that picture it looks like your lower limb is bending a good amount more than the top limb. I would personally either flip the bow to make that top limb the bottom limb or I would remove material from the top limb. And yeah I would also remove a bit from the outer limbs as well.

Yup.  I’d get those outers bending more.
Sticks and stones and other poky stabby things.

Hey Dave. It's been a while. Great to see you back at it.  :OK
I'd think your combo should make a nice shooting bow.

Thanks and hi Pat.   I think the apparent extra lower limb bend is seen because of the tilt in the pic.  Looks good on tiller stand.  I'll fiddle with it and report back.

Looking good, maybe a little more in the outer 1/3 but you have to remember on an R/D it will look kind of flat from mid limb out, it won't have that prefect arc , if it dose you got the outer bending to much.  :) you are getting close to my eyes.  :)
