Semi bendy Osage character bow
« on: May 13, 2024, 12:12:20 am »
Hey everyone. Here is a bow I finished up fairly recently. It’s 60” TTT and pulls 55# at 26”. Widest part of the limbs is just past mid limb on both limbs. Narrowest is just over an inch and is about 1/3 out from the handle. That’s what the stave gave me. I’d say it’s a “semi bendy handle” bow - definitely bends into the handle a little but not like a true bendy. But it’s the first bow I’ve built that wasn’t a totally stiff handle bow. Tip overlays are whitetail antler as is the arrow rest. This bow was by far the most difficult build I’ve done. It had all sorts of problems - lacked width and thickness, snake, pin knots, bigger knots, twist, etc. There are many cracks running through the handle area. Everything was filled with CA. It’s super fun to shoot, any every time I do, I’m thankful when it’s over and it hasn’t blown up! Hard to trust a bow that is half super glue!

Very nice bow from a difficult stave. Congratulations.
On this style bow I like to the handle just start to give when I reach my full draw.

Nicely done sir.  That’s a bow that tests your skills and let’s you know what can be done.  Very nice.

Incredible what you did with a wood like that... It is really beautiful. And perfectly tillered.
Do you think that dessign makes less speedy bows than a similar stiff handle one?

I love all the wibbly-wobbly bits!

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. Pat - I believe that’s how I have this bow - just starting to bend in the handle at full draw. As for the speed question, I don’t notice any difference in speed. Once I get to shooting it through my chronograph I’ll post up speeds. I’d guess it’s  160-170 fps +/- with hunting arrows, which is what I get from most of my bows.

Sorry for the extra comment: I´m watching your bow and reading again not in a hurry this time and what I see here is amazing; this is a master piece. Congratulations.
It seems to  have been born as a deflex-reflex one; better for drawing it with the speed ventatge near tips.
Thanks for your answer.
