Rendezvous Yew Bow
« on: February 03, 2024, 05:06:20 pm »
Here are photos of a bow that I recently made for the annual Rendezvous raffle held by the black powder club that I belong to. The bow is 66” inches long, pulls 38# @ 28” and is made from a Pacific Yew stave that was harvested from the Washington State Cascade mountains. The bow is unbacked and is constructed per the primitive archery competition requirements for Pacific Primitive Rendezvous (PPR), i.e. all-natural construction, and no arrow rest. The handle wrap is dyed elk hide and limb tip overlays are fashioned from buffalo horn. The finish on the bow is Tru-Oil gunstock finish to protect it from the elements. The bow will be raffled with a handmade beaded quiver and a matching set of wood arrows. I made the bow a lighter draw weight because I have found that most Rendezvous folks are casual archers and are not accustomed to drawing heavier bows.

Thank you for the nice compliments. I prefer simple designs when I have no control over who is going to end up with a bow and what their capabilities are - fewer things that can go wrong.

Pretty much the usual fare from Gord-O....classy, well made, enough character to be fascinating, and dressed well enough to be able to hold her head up at any hoedown, barn dance, or fancy-dress ball!

I especially like the tip overlays, Gordon. Most elegant!

A real beautiful piece of work. I to would also like to know how you could get a raffle ticket? Do you have to be present to win?

Exceptional work. As always. I love the profile that seems to be a defining feature of your work - slight deflex with long slightly flipped tips. Worth trying to emulate.
