Anyone recognize this?
« on: March 25, 2023, 05:40:31 pm »
Got my old recurve takedown out today after thinking about pearl drums post about lemons into lemonade. It’s been sitting for many, many years. It’s a bow I bought in I believe 1979. I’ll post some pictures of it and how it goes together. Was thinking I might be able to make some limbs for the handle like Pearl did for his riser. The original limbs were 65 lbs @ 28 inches. At my age I’m not drawing that but I’m going to buy a bow stringer and see what it feels like just for kicks.

Better picture of the receiver.  The limb were locked in place once the bow was strung.. when bought it I was afraid it would be noisy but it was actually very quiet. Took my fair share of deer with it..

Probably right about that price.. I’m going to clean it up and try to strip the spray paint off of it. The riser is/was beautiful wood.. going to try and make some Osage limbs for it, someday. Probably have to back them with something, or not.
If I can match the profile of the existing limb it should work fine.

This bow was actually bought out of the Herters catalog. Myself I hated seeing them go out of business.. I bought quite a few things from them and had no complaints..

The riser pad/pocket looks like it wont be easy to make wood limbs for. Building an I-beam riser is quite easy to do. Do you have a drill press, band saw or a stationary belt sander?
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

I have a belt sander. It portable, as is my bandsaw. I might be getting a better bandsaw. My little portable isn’t really able to cut much.  I thought I might be able to match the part of the limb where it fits into the riser and work out from there.  Maybe not though. Just crossed my mind after seeing your post. Might give it a go when I find myself with a lot of time and nothing to do.
