What method is better for bending recurves into a hickory bow? Dry heat, steam, or boil? And what is a safe amount of recurve?
Same question for white oak.

Steam or boil for both woods. You'll get all sorts of answers about the safe amount of recurve. If you haven't made a recurve before I'd suggest you start with reflexed tips and once you get that worked out move on to small recurves and go up from there. Reflexing the last 8" to 10" a couple of inches would probably be a good start.
