since i have never backed a bow before, how do you cut the grain for 1\8 inch hickory or elm backing strips? edge grain? i'd prefer not to buy them since i have access to it here. thanks- Ryan

you can use quarter sawn or plain sawn just make sure theres not to many run offs. Its basicaly the same as building a board bow.
