66” asymmetric takedown Osage recurve

I decided to make a takedown bow with a really nice Osage stave I had been seasoning for over two years.  I wanted it to be 68” ntn and cut the stave at the center (or so I thought) and fitted the sliding sleeve on both billets. After letting the the epoxy set up I realized my top limb was four inches longer than my lower limb  . After reviewing asymmetrical bow designs here on PA I cut two inches off the top limb and continued with the build.

The bow is 66” ntn and pulls 52# @ 28”. It is a straight pyramid design; 1-1/2” wide at the fades tapering to 1/2” wide at the nocks. I glued on antler tip overlays and a bull snakeskin using TB 3. The bow balances nicely in my hand due to the longer top limb and is one of my smoothest shooting bow.

I shot well over a hundred arrows out of the bow and decided to go ahead and finish the bow. I put a coat of Tru-Oil on it. After letting it dry I was disappointed to discover a very faint chrysal on the lower limb. I’ve continued to shoot the bow with no change in the lower limb. I plan to continue to shoot it and will monitor the lower limb.

Your cranking them out Will.Another dandy.You must have found a honey hole for bullsnakes.
I've been monitoring a 64" sinewed black cherry bow limb for years here for a chrysall showing.Bow continues to shoot as good as ever and I know it's had thousands of shots through it.

Your experience with that cherry bow gives me encouragement that this bow will last awhile. It really shoots nice. Can’t wait to see what you put that pair of bull snakeskins on Ed.
